Searles and Richt's play calling created a false perception about our current OL

Fresh start for the entire OL is likely needed.

Best thing Miami might have done over the off-season is get this Tommy Kennedy from Butler. I don't think he's particularly great, but a senior left tackle prospect with a ton of snaps under his belt is what this OL needs. A set it and forget it player at the most important spot on the line. You really are just hoping the rest of Miami's OL just takes the next few steps. Its not like they are untalented...but they need to put it all together, get in shape and work on their technique. Too often have our linemen been lazy, overmatched, and looking like they are still in HS.

Really,have you ever been to Madison,Wisc.or is this a WAY(wild *** guess)?Wisc.
has more bars per capita than any state fueled by at least 25+breweries!

I said distractions, not a better playI doubt Wisconsin has girls in there Bikinis 24hours a day at every stop.

You really got me feeling like I disrespected a great greenbay packers fan base. I bet there's more girls in Bikinis 247/365 here per capita worldwide. California is close but it gets cold there at night sooo... Not everyone enjoys the Frat Boy Party Lifestyle

I also think the actual talent of the OL is TBD. The musical chairs OL will make a lot of OLs look bad. The predictability of Richts playcalling was also a killer. If a defender can predict the play and snap count, it's almost impossible for the OL to win the LOS. Even with the smallest DL, if he knows the snap count and play, it's incredibly simple to jump into the gap, fall down, and blow up the run lane. Doesn't matter if the OL is 450 lbs and i'm 200 lbs, if I know the play and snap count, I am going to beat you into the gap and get really low, and the OL isn't going to be able to move me in time

The perception is that we don't have talented enough players to have a decent to slightly good OL. Not true.

We've recruited good talent for the OL, we just haven't trained that talent. With a new O staff, a new S&C coach and 8 months to get ready, there is no reason why our 2019 OL cannot be at least above average and consistent. With our D and playmakers on O, and with a scheme that takes all of those things into account, there's no reason for our OL to take a massive step forward this year and I predict it will.
Wow, one extremely optimistic statement

I sure hope so, because that would make the new staff out to be magicians

I have to say that I disagree with you

Sorry but perception & statistics = reality

Everything else is wishful thinking

I’m not a fan of the rotating players on the OL. It seems we’ve been doing that for as long as we have been mediocre. Find 5, let them gel and form an OL. The last 2 regimes thought too much of their “football minds” and made things more difficult than they needed to be. El Jefe focused on a simple attacking them on D and made an adjustment to better defend the offenses we were facing and boom, success.

Go Canes!

I suspect the OL will see a jump in effectiveness as big as we saw in the 2016 DL. The talent is there to produce much better and was being shackled by poor scheme, uninspired playcalling and an ineffective QB. We won't be lights out, but will get much better results with those 3 issues being addressed.

Was discussing this earlier with D Money, but those upperclassmen were JAGs.

The guys coming up, Scaife, Reed, Campbell, etc, seem to have much higher physical upside

Combine that with superior coaching(hopefully) and a modern day offensive approach, the Oline should look better, at least on the surface

I agree with this 100% System means everything to an o-line. How that system looks will be another thing.

Having played OL at center in my day it is impossible to overstate the importance of continuity and a savage mentality that binds the group together where they have zero doubts about the ability of their brothers next to them to destroy their man and execute, or in some cases pickup slack/assist when the defense throws a curve. Coaching and the coach's mentality play a major role in creating that structure. Let alone ****ty strength and conditioning. What we have witnessed on the OL the past few years I believe bares that out. Hopefully the changes across the board will be enough to turn the ***** we've seen into at least a solid rock.

Watching Art Kehoe’s offensive line for many years showed a few things: motivation, hard work, desire, comraderie and leadership are absolutely critical to a good offensive line. I don’t think those qualities were present in our line for quite some time but the right coaches and team leadership within can change that quickly. We have the bodies – I don’t believe they’ve had the mindset. Let’s hope the staff makes that critical change – certainly Diaz has shown he can do it on defense.

Think you’re wrong but thanks for the sunshine

Our interior line could be dominant. Donaldson is a beast RG, Reed could be a beast LG and Gaynor a beast C. They need to really have a great offseason... OT though has been trash. Hopefully Kennedy & Scaife are the answers.
I’m not sure what you were watching but Donaldson didn’t look dominant at all last season. He needs to shape up because he looked fat and lazy from the get go. LG and C are holy ****ed In the *** bad, we don’t know if Gaynor is a beast come on now, and that LG position didn’t get fixed any.
