Search your soul and answer honestly: can Richt win a ship?

He will get us to the coastal yearly but he will never win a title here, he will place thebuilding blocks in place for the next guy. If they get lazy with the hire next time around it will all be destroyed.

Let's say you are right and he is not the man to lead us to a NC and he is going to do what he did at UGA and average 10 wins a season but never win the big game. Richt would still have been the right hire. We have sucked for over a decade now with **** coach after **** coach. There was talk that Miami was just going to be an average team going forward and never a power again. Richt changed all that in 2 years. No big time coach or coordinator was going to come here. We were the school that didn't care enough to win. We upped our coaching salaries big time with Richt. We also got the IPF which wasnt even talked about before Richt. We have loads of talent coming in and a great start to 2019 & 2020.

Richt will retire here and it may be in the next five years. Once he does, Miami's profile is at a different level at that point and we can get our choice of coaches rather than trying to hit on a mid-level coach that had mild success. In the mean time, we will be playing meaningful games in November/December. We will have something to cheer for rather than hoping we can get bowl eligible. I would prefer that over what we have had done since 04.

I disagree with this fully and completely. Coaches at Miami are expected to compete for and play for national titles. Miami is not Texas A&M. Texas or Georgia. 10 wins is not the bar here, nor is it acceptable. Miami has a recruiting advantage that's unmatched by any other program in America.

You can't lower the bar or the Miami standard, just because we had a dip and a string of bad coaches since 2006.

He could but there are some staff changes he probably has to make it on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think Manny is a championship level DC. He a good DC to turn things around but honestly you can't have 2 average coordinators. Since Richt is the HC and calling plays that means Manny will probably have to go. Not only that but Manny is not a good LB coach or recruiter IMO. I felt we passed up a lot of really good LB the last 2 years.

Our LBs as a group were trash. We only got production from 2 guys. It took like 4 games before we started playing our gaps correctly and get proper depth in our drops. We didn't get physical with TEs and reroute them (along with WR). I saw a poorly coached group IMO. As a defense (especially at DL and LB) we were VERY undisciplined especially to start the season. It makes me wonder WTF were we doing all off-season for us to start off with no discipline to the point Bethune Cook-man was able to take advantage of it. How did we not see these problems during camp or did we just ignore them? We need to correct ALL problems or potential problems from a fundamental/technical standpoint no matter how small it may look early on.

I don't think Rumph and Kool are elite enough recruiters to maintain elite status for long so that players they recruit can mask Manny's weakness as a DC. They also need to teach physicality more. At times I felt we were to soft. Kool is a good coach but we did not make enough plays against the run on the DL IMO. It wasn't tough sledding running the ball against us and we didn't set the edge well on read option plays aswell.

For Rumph, we weren't physical enough. Maybe it could be talent but I wish we weren't trying to play so **** clean. Get dirty, rough up these WRs, and force these refs to throw flags (they aren't going to throw it every time). All year I seen DBs get physical with our WR but we never did the same to them. We also have to emphasis tracking the ball in the air this off-season.

I think our S&C program is average to below average. We had no brute strength. On broadcast when the keys to the game is "will Miami be physical?" that is an indictment on the S&C program as they are responsible for that no matter how you look at it. That's also an embarrassment something like that is even a question for UM football. PERIOD.

Basically the question "Can Richt win a ship here?" should immediately be followed by "Can Manny produce a top 10 defense?". We aren't getting there with an average play caller and average DC. We've seen average play callers make it to the championship game on a consistent level but not an average DC. Last time I check I've never heard the term "championship offense".

**** yes he can and he will . But this is a stupid thread. We have the best coach UM has had since JJ and people want to bad mouth him LOL.

Yes he can, once he build the roster to the level its supposed be at key positions

Of course he can. Frankly, it will come down to players, I like what we are building on offense, if one of these QBs work out we should be **** good. Still think we need an influx of talent on D, we'll see what happens.

Larry Coker won a NC, so I'll go with yes, it's certainly possible

he had a bama roster, thats like saban getting fired and someone else taking over. Even in the 30 for 30 Davenport said he didnt do **** yet yall still dont listen.

Bama has never had a roster with talent like that 2001 team, no team in college football history ever has. You're talking about future pro bowlers being backed up on the depth chart by future pro bowlers. An extremely well trained chimpanzee could have coached that 2001 team....the fact Coker almost found a way to lose to Boston College with the greatest collection of talent ever speaks to how bad Coker was.

So I say all that to say using Coker as an example is probably a bad choice....someone like Barry Switzer might be more appropriate

Nice man, decent man, consistent, and a very good coach but I’m not sure he’s championship Caliber at a Miami level. Some will call me a troll and that’s fine, but I have concerns. I think the guy is a 9-10 win coach -which is AWESOME if you’re Michigan or Georgia, but Miami is just different. That won’t work here.

I WANT to believe, but I just don’t know. I see many things that’s concerning (schottenheimer styled playcalling, mediocre defense)

Search your soul and speak the truth.

I won't call you a troll but I will call you a idiot, maybe a moron, a circle jerk master or jackass can't decide which fits! Probably all of them! The stupid is spreading.....

We were a laughing stock in college football in 2015. If we’re nothing more than a top ten team be thankful.

Not really. We went 8-5 (5-3). Got blown out by the national runners-up. We were mediocre in 2015. Richt has gotten us from mediocre to good.

We were blown out more than once in 2015, we lost to our rival for the sixth straight year, also lost to cincy. National Championship or not, this was the first fun football season with big wins since 2004.

After almost 15 years of mediocrity the bar you speak of is nonexistent. Coach Mark Richt pulled a program out of a death spiral after only 2 short years and was one game from being in the final 4 playoffs. Coach Richt's actions have pushed the Canes back into the national conversation as a contender and instead of rejoicing about this miraculous turn around the haters are attacking the man. Unf'ing believable!

He was the best coaching hire at the time (Butch Davis aside) and I am glad he is our coach. But I don't think we can compete with Clemson, Alabaga, or Georgia at the moment. This may change in a couple of years but we'll need a better cornerback coach and a recruiter for Defensive Tackle.
