Search your soul and answer honestly: can Richt win a ship?

I think Richt can win a NC here. But his coaching alone doesn't win a NC. Like others have said he'll need multiple Top 5 quality recruiting classes in a row. And even then I think he may need a special QB to win a NC. Chizik had Cam Newton at Auburn, Mack Brown had Vince Young at Texas - that's why they won a National Championship.

Coaching alone doesn’t win an NC for anybody.

Why do people keep saying this?

You have to have the talent.

And by the way, I think Rick has to stack chips, but not like Saban. Nobody stacks talent like Saban, and no one will.

Maybe UGA and LSU come close to stacking talent like him. Miami will stack talent, but it will always be somwhat less than Bama and maybe UGA. Even with that, as long as we come close, we’ll win ships.

I hope Richt wins a title here before he retires. Even if he doesn't. He is building a foundation that will set this program up to be a constant threat to the CFP.

I am thankful for all this man has done and will do for our Canes.

Nice man, decent man, consistent, and a very good coach but I’m not sure he’s championship Caliber at a Miami level. Some will call me a troll and that’s fine, but I have concerns. I think the guy is a 9-10 win coach -which is AWESOME if you’re Michigan or Georgia, but Miami is just different. That won’t work here.

I WANT to believe, but I just don’t know. I see many things that’s concerning (schottenheimer styled playcalling, mediocre defense)

Search your soul and speak the truth.

What you are saying is he hit his ceiling in year 2. This is before seeing how this and the next year's recruiting classes pan out. This self entitled BS needs to stop. You are following a program that won its first bowl game in a decade during Richt's first year. If you can't enjoy the University of Miami improving its record, then find another team. Not every coach is Nick Saban.

So is it about improving their record or winning championships. That's what he is getting millions for.

A championship would be an improvement, so you can't exclusively pay someone to win championships. Also, he donated $1 million to the IPF which I'm guessing is more than anyone on this board has donated.

He's improved recruiting. Our win record. He's won our first bowl game in a decade. First Orange Bowl appearance in 15 years. First Coastal Title in school history. This is all in two years. Is he paid to improve the program? Yes. Yes he is.

In improving the program, he's gotten Game Day to appear on campus. Defeated FSU for the first time in 8 years. Defeated Notre Dame for the first time since 1989.

Oh, and look at the attendance numbers. When have we have games attended this well at Miami? All of these are hurdles Miami needs to leap before discussing a National Championship.

my only concern with richt is his arrogance, a certain smugness that he gives off.

perhaps it's just in my imagination but it's there, like a splinter in my mind

I think he will win a championship at Miami.
I think it will happen in the next 2 years.
I think he will win more than 1.
I will still sometimes question his choices/play calling/recruiting, etc. before he wins that championship, even though he has my full support.

If arrogance were measured by military rank, Richt would be a sergeant and Saban a 4 star general.

Well, he's definitely recruiting right. Has the best support staff possible, probably the best in years since 2003. And he has the program and the team on a progressively winning trend. And now you're gonna pick at the little speck (Your doubt, your second-guessing) and question whether he can win the big one?

I like that some of us have the positive perspective that he's stacking the roster right and laying the foundation for future success. But I believe he can win the big one when he has all the chips in place. We forget, this is an ever-evolving, cyclicle game. Blabalama is not infallible. USeeF is not the epitome of CFB. The Butteyes can't be written off for the so-so season they had. AND MIAMI CAN'T BE UNDERESTIMATED BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING IN THE RECENT PAST. We are as legit as any program.

Yes I think he can. A lot of luck plays into winning a championship as well. We were screwed three times out of a championship.

You can have the best guys in the world, but if you dont have a little bit of luck, you won't win it all.

Even our '01 team needed a run back by Ed Reed to survive BC.

I think he can. He has every advantage, aside from bagmen. As others have posted, he won 10 games with a poor QB, average at best OL, after losing his best RB, and his best WR was hampered by injuries. He understands what made Miami great. He has a long term plan to restore the program from top to bottom.

My only reservation is Richt needs to be willing to adapt his offense and make changes on the coaching staff as needed. Not knee-jerk reactions, but holding himself and his staff accountable.

People forget the offensive cogs he lost, in addition to an average QB with a suspect/injured shouldered and literally nobody behind him to go to:

1. Mark Walton
2. Ahmmon Richards
3. Chris Herndon

Still got ten wins. No wonder the offense sputtered.

Yes and no.

Yes, with the right assistants he can. That would mean he needs some help offensively and I don't believe Diaz is the answer defensively.

Championship calibre coaches typically owe a lot of credit to their assistants. The two that are the best at assembling their staff, Saban and Meyer.

Hopefully the stars align.

With all due respect to the players we had a bit of a chicken salad type situation if you know what I mean. Terrible injury situation and 70 or so players and we basically won 11 games, I’m counting the Arky st. game, and almost hit #1 and made the playoffs. So yeah I think so.

my friend made a great point about Richt, if the current four team playoff format were in play during his time at UGA, Richt's Bulldogs would've made the playoffs about three times(2002 ,2007 and 2012) and in 07 they were playing as well as anyone in the country at the time ad in 12 they were neck and neck with Bama

Again, I have my questions about the direction of his offense and his philosophy( but that could be more of a Rosier) issue but when you put it like that, yeah, I think we'll be OK with Richt...

If he insists on continuing to call offensive plays....I have serious doubts.

The sample size with Richt is large enough at this point that we can pretty definitively say what he is.....a good/solid NCAA coach. No better , no worse. He needs good coordinators around him and right now his stubbornness with regards to play calling is beginning to annoy me.

Serious Q, do you think Saban gets 10 wins with this roster?

No...I think he gets 11. Our schedule is and has been very favorable during Richt's tenure and he's lost a few games these last 2 years we should have won.

I'm ok with him being the head coach...but in my humble opinion it takes a certain caliber coach to do both the head thing and the OC thing and he's simply not at that caliber. If he stays in his lane he can do well here but like I said before....his stubbornness is beginning to become an annoyance.

To lazy to read all the responses. Please tell me someone told the OP to stick his soul searching request where the sun don't shine. This place is definitely accelerating down the backside of the bell curve.

Go Canes!

There need to be upgrades made staff wise in order to reach that level. With this staff we have in place with him calling plays, manny being manny, and average to bad special teams it won’t happen idc what class is coming in. I 100% believe if he can make the correct changes and hire the right assistants while continuing to recruit at this level then yes we’ll be in contention. And for the ones bringing up chizik and Coker, please tell me when cam or that 2001 squad is enrolling cause that’s basically all you’re saying.

this won't age well.

Print it out and put it on your fridge. Like everything else I've ever posted on this site, right or wrong, I stand by it. I've been voicing concerns about his play calling for some time now so it isn't like this is some hot new take.

Let's see which stance ages better. Sample size is on my side. I'll be right here.
