Search your soul and answer honestly: can Richt win a ship?

Well we are not getting Nick Saban or Urban Meyer so out of all the other coaches he is capable as any of them to win a NC. You also need a lot of luck in order to win one.

Nice man, decent man, consistent, and a very good coach but I’m not sure he’s championship Caliber at a Miami level. Some will call me a troll and that’s fine, but I have concerns. I think the guy is a 9-10 win coach -which is AWESOME if you’re Michigan or Georgia, but Miami is just different. That won’t work here.

I WANT to believe, but I just don’t know. I see many things that’s concerning (schottenheimer styled playcalling, mediocre defense)

I feel the same. I badly want Richt to succeed, but he doesn't appear to have that killer instinct and nasty side needed to win a natty. I worry that the guy is too nice and laid back and would prefer not to beat a team senseless. Saban, Dabo, Urban...they are win at all costs dudes. they've got the burning desire to destroy the competition.

I think Rick can win he just has terrible taste in assistant coaches. Check the history and Georgia he has had some successes but more failures. Maybe he is too much of a control freak and doesn’t let his coaches do their thing. Why did Rick and Jeremy Pruitt not get along still can’t find anything on this?

Yep easiest path to the ACCCG as we will now have a unreal talent edge in our favor compared to our coastal mates... Then he faces the juggernaut of probably the 3 toughest games being Clemson that year(if its not a down year for them), followed by the two playoff games.

My doubts about Richt winning a championship rests not with his ability to coach. I just wonder if ANYONE, no matter HOW talented can win a title in Mark Emmert’s NCAA and the way he runs CFB today. Just think the deck is stacked against us (and many other good programs). Without major changes, including dumping Emmert on his fat ***, it will be almost impossible.

No. Of course not. Winning a NC shouldnt even be a worry now, anyway.

Great, we won the Coastal. (Great, I am thrilled, it certainly rid the program of a sickening albatross round our necks). We actually won 3 big games (we had what, one, maybe two big game wins since 2003?).

But it was the most down year in Coastal history (a history of the most awful division in the P5 since its inception), with the worst FSU team we have seen since the '70's, and we just barely squeaked by awful Coastal teams and then crapped our pants against a 4-8 Pitt team.

Even having superior talent over every foe but FSU and Clemson, one could say we overachieved as we had no OL and no QB, and no depth. Great.

But winning a NC? Nothing in Richt's history or what we have seen so far indicates any NC.

Winning the Coastal in '18 is still our bar.

Only if we reach Top 5 level consistently in terms of recruiting and preseason ratings. The low end of that range, like the 4 and 5 teams, typically are assigned odds like 7-1 or 8-1 to win the title.

So that is logically manageable if Richt coaches another decade or more.

However, if we get stalled in the current range closer to 9 or 10th on the preseason rankings and preseason odds list, that is more like 20-1 or 25-1 odds in a typical year.

Theoretically you are 3 times less likely to win a title from the #10 slot than the #4 or #5 slot. That's an easy way to look at it.

My answer is No. I don't expect a Canes national championship under Richt. But I don't make it as much of an underdog as a year ago.

IMO I think he can if he can find the right QB. Finding the right QB can turn a team from pretender to contender.

How can you even ask this question when we’ve won over half our ships with a blind-drunk alcoholic and a nodding clapping bobblehead. You actually think he’s a worse coach than Erickson or Clappy?

Of course we can win a ship with Rick, we need the players and depth. He won’t get interference on personnel like at UGA, so I expect improvement every year, which is exactly what we’ve seen so far. Looking for 11-12 wins next year.

I think he will win one. I also believe once he wins one, the flood gate will open. For years we haven't had a Miami roster. We've had some good pieces, but not a full Miami roster. We haven't had to ability to reload in 13 years. We're getting there. I don't think anyone understand just had bad of shape we were in from the Shapiro Scandal and Golden taking this program back some 70 years. To win 10 games already is pretty dog on good. Next year I think we compete for the CFP. Year 2019, we win it all.
