Mario did not seem like a man worried when talking about it on Greg McElroy’s show. One thing I did find interesting was he directly avoided specifics although McElroy’s co-host specifically referenced Upshaw and Viti.Wonder if we have really swung and miss... NO WAY after the season we had no one would want to coach our DB's. Maybe no one wants to step under Harris and be their own at their own schools. Harris has always owned the room, albeit it’s been known he wants the NFL so that should entice someone?
Man, well, you know, the guys I've worked with and worked for and whatnot, and it's really not about me. It's about the mindset and the culture of the entire organization. So, I mean, first and foremost, you got to love to get after it.
You got to love being a vocational teacher, and that's what this is. You got to really be in a ball, but you got to be about the big picture stuff also. And, you know, from whether it be guys that are currently on the staff as analysts or GAs or guys that we seek out, I mean, if you're in the house, if you're in the building, every single day is an interview.”
“So when there's an opening, you know, it's not time to suddenly turn it on. Every single day, you've had a chance to prove it. And some guys have and some guys are continuing to develop at other places.
But we really see guys that they have to be masters of their craft. They have to be elite teachers. They have to have a presence in the room.
They got to be able to control the attention of the people they are teaching. And they got to be able to gain their trust and confidence with knowledge, with connection. And they got to have a level of intensity and want to and know how that, you know, at the end of the day, it's going to be want to know (1-0; not want to know) and team first no matter what.
And loyalty reigns supreme in this industry. So yeah, in terms of the hiring process, I'm a royal pain in the ***. I really am.
And it's because that's where I learned from the guys that I had a chance to work for. It's not because I'm trying to reinvent the wheel. I just, I believe in the process that I was put through; so i do the same for others.
