And lmao I had no idea; scratch that then.
He and Mario hated each other in their pac 12 days lol

Tbh one thing i have noticed is Mario doesn’t seem to like the Saban model that has been exported to UTexas and plenty of other places where the staff is full of former HCs and coordinators.

So probably should expect a non-grizzled guy to be the cornerbacks coach anyways. . . . I’m just running out of mfs to guess who lmao

I suspect it will be Terry Jefferson.
He's coached here for a few years under Addae and Etheridge, Harris and he coached a very good DB group at Jax State.
Bump him up and bring a young guy to replace his asst CB gig.

I think he goes lower level conference coaches because he knows teams wont hire them away so quickly. Also some of those coaches have to rely on evaluating, developing and game planning more than talent

Still wouldn’t mind some former coordinators/hcs as analysts tho

Yeah great points all around. Moreover, he has had young guys like Ed O’s two sons working in those roles for a few years now. They might or might not have the eyes of Chud or Pagano, but perhaps he doesn’t need them to; in a way, it empowers the coordinators and position coaches he has while remaining collaborative.

Going through the list of off field guys more (ones who have bios), it seems extra important staff chemistry remains high.

For example, previously S&C and now moving to defense, this Rodney Prince played with Aaron Feld at Miss State and worked with Mario’s former FIU OC Bill Legg at Marshall, who worked with Hetherman in Minnesota. He also overlapped with Mirabal for one year at Marshall.

Clearly a man who values informal ties/networks & degrees of separation when forming the organizational personnel. Obviously something common to pretty much all industries to an extent however we see a counterpoint example w/ Dabo bringing in Tom Allen as his DC and the failed fit of Garrett Riley as the Clemson OC yet Dabo has control of all the offensive assistants still.

Our most experienced off-field guy is Todd Stroud who I’m happy he kept.

What’s nice is the coaching network has been growing as well. Maybe some of those older guys end up at Miami down line as a pit stop. However, on the younger side, dudes like Rob Ezell (Wake Forest OC) worked under Cristobal and are rising up the ranks.

Terry was my original guess, so i think he’s a leading contender too. My only distrust of that inclination is the fact that Mario hasn’t done it yet, and I believe the transition from Field to Woodiel was quicker.

I suspect he is hunting an orca.

Crazy looll i was literally searching everyone up on the support staff the other day. Yea they want familiarity and people who are familiar with the system

I think the texas guy you or someone else posted that was at Rutgers with heatherman before would have been hired as the guy but texas got him first

I think this db hire may be more important than the other hires because who knows if will harris will be here to start the year, he is most likely not gonna be here next year so it’s probably a long term hire that has to have similarities to heatherman

Maybe someone from indiana because its a similar defense, someone that had overlap with heatherman and/or cignetti at jmu

Guy needs to put us out of our misery ahaha….i think the dilemma is partially due to Etheridge had a higher title than Harris, and whoever he wants to bring in needs to be up to the same standards as Etheridge (who brought us Scott) and Harris as a coach w/ the litany of pros coached like Harris has.

That narrows the choices rapidly, and on top of that they have to be the right fit with a group that just went to a national championship

Mark Stoops is going to Texas. Would have been a good choice to return to UM as DB coach.

That would make for an interesting coaches as Dawson hates Stoops for how he scapegoated him in 2015 when Stoops hired Dawson as OC at Kentucky, didn’t let him run his offense and then fired him immediately after the season. Dawson felt that set his career back years because of it..
