Probably many of you won't know or remember him, but congrats to one of our best LB's ever being inducted in the Univ of Miami HOF. He was one of leaders of Howards defense and if you saw him play, he was steady, consistent, and always around the ball and seemed like he had 100 tackles a game. Never seemed tired.

Let's not forget these players who brought the program up to where it is today, so I'm glad to see him get into our HOF.

Nicolas was one of many outstanding players brought to The U by Lou Saban, who doesn't get nearly enough credit for getting the ball rolling in the right direction in Coral Gables. Saban's ability to bring in guys like Jim Kelly, Lester Williams, Tony Chickillo, David Jefferson, CMR, Mike Rodrigue, Larry Brodsky, Mark Rush, Ronnie Lippett, Freddie Marion, Jim Burt and so many others meant that Schnellenberger did not find an empty cupboard when he took over. Scott Nicolas was as solid as they come.

Lester Williams was a huge get.
In 1978, Lester Williams was the #1 rated Defensive player in the nation. Art Schlicter was the #1 rated Offensive player. It cannot be overstated just how important it was for us to get him at the time. Signing him was a clear sign to the local talent that great things were about to happen in Coral Gables.

Scott Nicholas was the leader in tackles for many years. He was strong and always around the ball. As it is noted, he has 26 tackles again Ped State in '79, which is mindblowing....He was a guy who was a huge force on the defense that couldn't be stopped.

You guys are telling your age. I was there too. I was a big fan of Bob Nelson the other DT. I think he had as good as Lester Williams

Great memories for sure. Who remembers Tim Flanagan, ole Henry Radford, the big Te from Killian, and yes, getting a homey like Lester Williams, who could of gone to any school he wanted, was a recruiting coup for the U and Arnie Romero.

I met Mike Rodrigue at a hibachi restaurant in Tallahassee a few weeks ago, he was there celebrating his daughter's birthday and he sat across the grill form me. I'm only 22 so I did not recognize him nor had I ever heard of him, but he struck up a conversation with my girlfriend and I and found out that we were Miami fans despite being in school at FSU.

After a while about talking about living in Miami, he casually mentioned how he played with Richt and Kelly and all the original guys who brought us to glory. I was blown away so I asked him questions about playing for Schnelly and what it was like to be on those teams. He just spoke about how great all those guys were and how special his times at Miami were. His daughters were smiling so proudly, I don't think they had ever seen a fan so starstruck by their dad lol.

He even spoke about how Bernie Kosar had just spoken to the team a few days before Toledo and that Coach Richt called him up to chat just a little bit before that. Miami Alumni stick together for life, and they always pay attention to the current teams.

I had to google him afterwards but he I found out he was a **** of a player, QB turned WR after realizing the room was too stacked to get playing time. Nowadays players would just transfer, but he stayed on board and became an excellent receiver. Really nice guy and good dad, he made me really proud to be a cane.

Mike Rodrigue was the starter in '79 or Howard's first year, jersery #6.....Jimbo came along and got the W in Happy Valley so Mike became a WR...That '79 team had 2 other great WR's Pat Walker and John Jefferson.

Tim Flannigan was a gritty DE and along with Scott Nicholas, Lester Williams, Mozell Axson, and Jamie Boone..Tim's brother post on this board too.

Nicolas was a bit before my time but I read he had 26 tackles in a game against Penn State in 1979. Pretty impressive feat.
