You were talking stuff above his cranial circuitry, like you were the M2 chip driven brain, while he was potato chip driven or something…no need to be salty, friend. This is pretty cool stuff. As a short story, 3 years ago, I was entering my final semester at UM. I was a physics/math double major and thought my undergrad physics degree was useless unless I planned to go to grad school (thankfully I was wrong and lucky), so I started to think about ways I could use my math degree. I love sports and had some experience with SQL and Power BI, so my first thought was some kind of analytics.
Long story short, I sent a few people involved with the football team this long email detailing how I would love to talk about ways to gather/use data that they may not have thought about, or just help with what they currently do. This included a few things in this article. After a few weeks of waiting on a reply, I get a short email back basically saying thanks, but no thanks.
I'm sure they had at least a limited data collection scheme, but I've always wondered if they were already collecting things I detailed in my email. Also, I was a little salty about it and may be a reason I didn't like Manny much from day 1.
Most football staffers think linear regression is about failure and a t-test is something women do at Starbucks. College teams usually buy reports from sports data companies and try their best to interpret it.This is pretty cool stuff. As a short story, 3 years ago, I was entering my final semester at UM. Only a matter of time, before we see NASCAR type of pit stop on the sidelines, where a computer identifies a certain player needing a shot of cortadito or something, and he’s summoned for.Article regarding how the U is using high tech to enhance performance!
