One of the situations Richt is dealing with is lack of players and/or available
players. From the State of the U report,Richt has 77 scholarship players on the
roster.
Of that 77,Gray,Langham,Cager,Irvin,Haskins,Jones,Milo,Loftus,Johnson,
Patchan,Martin,Gordiner,Henley,Knowles and James totaling 15 bringing that
77 down to 62.Those 15 are basically not a factor either because of injury,
redshirt or simply not good enough to play.Or to put it another way,Richt is
playing teams with 28% fewer players.
So when you call Darling,Gall pathetic and the secondary third rate keep
in mind there starting because the backups are worse or non existent.
Whose to blame? Certainly G.....n and staff because in many cases they
gave out schoolies to fill a roster;i.e. Loftus,Langham.
Also Richt, because before recruiting he had to assemble a staff.Similar
results happened at UGA when Richt left and Smart took over. The U will be
good, but it won't be this year or next.Richt is the coach who will succeed.

Why do people bring up Darling in the same context as Gall? Darling is a good OL, playing out of position. By far our most talented. Gall just sucks ***. Don't fault Darling for Goldens **** ups in recruiting true offensive tackles and forcing him to play there.

Bet the steelers draft him and he'll end up like Chickillo. Steelers know exactly what's been going on at UM and they've cashed in on a few guys

So, our complaints that we suck are some how mitigated or made less legitimate because our second string is garbage so Richt can't play them?

SOLID FCKING RATIONALE.

As the owner of this site, OP might want to take more pride in creating threads because this one stinks!

Why do people thing Darling will be a good OG at the next level or even here? Darling isn't a road grader by any means, i question his nasty streak, and he will still struggle with any DT that is quick (Norten, McIntosh, Willis would eat him alive). The best guards are road graders with a nasty streak that have decent pass pro. Those things just don't seem to describe Darling at this time.

Agreed. Just because you suck at tackle doesn't mean you'll make a good guard.

Darling looked better at right tackle back in 2014 iirc.

Golden's plan (if he had one) was probably this:

LT McDermott
LG Gall
C Linder
RG Isidora
RT Darling

or

LT Gadbois
LG McDermott
C Linder
RG Isidora
RT Darling

Unfortunately, McDermott couldn't hack it at tackle, Gadbois got booted and O'dogflu isn't good enough to be a LT.

Both of those scenarios suck IMO :sanford:

However we are where we are and we need to get something figured out.

I say that because I have watched our OL and him in general. He has moments where he's really good but once the DE gets him in space 1 on 1 he's ****ed. If he's playing in a phone booth (what our OL coach used to say) then he's dominant. Match him up with some slower DT in pass pro, he's strong enough to hold up.

Obviously it's just an opinion. I just hope Donaldson comes in and wins the LT job so Darling gets that opportunity. He's obviously never going to earn a pay check at LT, I'm hoping he moves to RG and gets the chance to showcase what a lot of people have been saying, that he's a future NFL guard.

This. Tackle and guard are entirely different positions. You're blocking tackles vs DEs. Darlings worst moments are pass rushers

Okay, so Richt is playing with 27% fewer than the 85 max. Without knowing what everyone else is playing with, it's misleading. Every program has redshirts, injuries, and guys who just aren't good enough to play. Every program loses guys to attrition (academics, team rules, NCAA violations, disciplinary). So, yeah, Richt is playing with 27% below the max of 85. I don't see it as all that unusual. Sorry, but the OP makes it sound like an excuse. I don't buy it.

You won't find another P5 team playing with so few scholarship players. It's nowhere close to "usual". Usual would be having 75 or more available. There's a huge difference between our numbers and the "usual".

Without a source for the numbers, you can't possibly know that. And, as far as I know, no one lists their guys who "aren't good enough to play".
