what hs coach wants his kid to play for this staff?

The record isn't good I know, but Perryman is butkus award semi finalist is about to get paid, So is Flowers, Dorsett, Walford is McKay award semi finalist about to get paid too. Gripe all you want about win loss record, but player development getting kids to next level they do a good job with.
Plus Miami is a great school.

Let me let you in on a secret:

NO ONE who is an elite football player gives a **** about academics. It has never been or will be a selling point for the kind of athletes we need.

I thought Beard was our ace in the hole with Scarlett and Bruce. Is that no longer true?

How many times does it need to be said that at some point having "good convincers" doesn't mean ****. "Recruiting ability" gives you a bump for the first couple of classes, but then you have to win games or nobody believes what they are being sold about the staff. Which is why when you hire guys like Carroll, Barrow, Ice, Coley, etc, it doesn't matter how "cool" they are or how they "relate to kids".

Every school has guys that are cool and get along with kids. Ultimately the biggest brands and the best teams are what sell. Miami has been a terrible program for 10 years. The answer is we need better football coaching, not more cool guys.

This. There is nothing to sell. The recruiting job is **** near impossible. You can't convince kids to come to a program that is sinking no matter how good a recruiter you are

I agree with this 100%, but it was the same deal when they committed.

This above statement is so short of facts, don't know where to start.First,NCAA has been raising the GPA's for years.Second, the offense
and defense today are so complicated, they need a mentally alert player. We have progressed beyond Woody Hayes"Three yards and a cloud
of dust."And to give you two of many examples David Robinson of Navy and the Rhodes Scholar, CB of FSU would strongly
disagree with you as well as Duke Johnson.

That and the fact that there are a half dozen programs in our conference already that are better schools not even counting incoming ND......

Youve named two kids. In the entire country. If Duke really came here for academics, he would have gone to any of the 50 better academic schools in the country. Kid was a life long Cane fan who was coming here regardless. No kid is picking UM b/c of it's academics. Sorry.

The only thing we can rely on against other ACC teams except FSU is we put people into the NFL, well used to and should put some in this year. I think Scarlett is still coming but Williams I think may be gone.

You don't choose a school only because of 1 thing, and it's stupid to just assume so. But it is completely realistic for academics to factor into your decision, in which case Miami is a good fit. It's not that they want to go to a school thats hard, its that they want their degree to actually have value. Its pretty simple.
We definitely should have academic standards. I'm fine with losing the 1-2 prospects a year that we would get if we had WVU's admission standards. If they really want to be a Cane, they'll do what Trayone did; WORK for it.

Then you should be fine with losing 1-2 additional games per year because of it.

You do realize that as far as academic standards go for athletes pretty much every school is the same. Now there are a few that have higher requirements than what the NCAA requires according to the sliding scale such as Wisconsin and Notre Dame but please don't think UM has these high standards for their athletes compared to other schools. If that was the case a kid like Gray would not have been here.

@Token, I said compared to WVU. I didn't say the athletes are held to the same standards as normal students, did I? I said "We definitely should have academic standards". I went on to say one school the does NOT have as high of academic standards as we do. If a kid can't work hard enough to pass our academic standards, they don't deserve to be here. Plain and simple.
@Beefstew, how exactly does not landing 1-2 kids per year mean losing 1-2 more games per year? You can't honestly think that we can't get a replacement that is almost as good and can meet the requirements.
I just think it's silly to be mad at Shalala because a student couldn't work hard enough to get a 2.5 gpa, and a 17 on the ACT or whatever it is, and I will always think this.

Players want to go to the league. With UM producing a solid number of pro prospects this year, it will actually help the staff recruit. Some of you will hate this as you want UM-Golden to fail, but hate to disappoint you as it's not going to happen.

If Duke leaves, I don't see Scarlett going to FSU. UM may lose, but he would get the playing time and still goto the league (or have the best shot at it). He would need PT, not winning.

FSU already has recruits ranked higher, Dalvin Cook ahead of him, and other on that roster, where in Miami, he would be the clear shot (yearby is going to be more of a change of pace 3rd down back in my opinion).

no inside information, just my opinion.
