Savor it

It’s been a helluva run. A run most people didn’t see coming and I’ve savored every moment of it. Stuff like this isn’t guaranteed as we’ve found out from he last 23 years. Win or lose I’ve gotten more enjoyment from this squad than any team of mine since the 04 Sawx. So especially to the younger guys here take it all in. Ten seeds don’t do this type **** , repeatedly knocking oft much higher seeds and proving folks wrong. None of this is surprising to most here but it’s still glorious to experience . A truly special group. We’ll likely have more talented teams down the road but this is the one that that killed a laundry list of narratives.
To piggy back, im especially happy for the Canes class that came in when the “U was dead” and “program should be shuttered”. Bain, Mauigoa, & Co who were here for 5-7 to a chip run. That “Restoration U” squad will go down as the group that brought the program back. I remember the disappointment I felt as a college freshman watching the game knowing we should have won. I hope those boys give everything they got…Take it in indeed……

When that football went out the back of the end zone and there were no flags at the end of the Fiesta Bowl, I wasn’t jumping around and screaming. I just slumped onto the couch. It was so cathartic it was almost draining. I couldn’t move.

Been a fan since ‘91 when I was a freshman. Saw the peak, the fall, the rise back to glory, then another fall that lasted decades. All the heartache of the last 20+ years, the brutal losses, the almost wins, the irrelevance. All that went away that night. I’ve never shed a tear because of a sporting event, but that night I got misty.

Well said. I just turned 41 two weeks ago. It’s been a long long road of watching Canes games. I’ve watched them all. I sat through all the disgusting loses, the ups, the downs, the sanctions, the cloud, that rat Nevin, remember the Edge game agaisnt UCLA, the fiesta bowl sadness, watching Alabama beat Miami when I was 7 and didn’t really understand while I was watching with my family, growing up in Alabama listening to tide fans for most of my twenties say how Miami was dead.

As I lay here sick on my couch and not going to the game I said I would never miss if it ever came a possibility, I can’t describe how the last few months have felt. Cherish every minute of all of it cause it’s not guaranteed.

I hope and think Miami will be regulars in the playoffs but it’s harder than ever now to win. The multiple game playoffs are a real gauntlet unlike anything schools back in the day had to face. If Miami closes this it out will be one of the most magical runs ever and be a 30 for 30 part 3, no doubt!

Let’s ******* go!!!!!!
Hope you feel better brother go canes!

I’ve been around longer than most and have seen the good ,the bad ,the ugly and the horrendous and I’ve prayed that the good Lord would just let the Canes win #6 or at least be relevant again before he called me home. I became a Cane fan in 1958 cause they were the closest team to Key West and then when George Mira got there in ‘61 he was the reason I stayed a Cane fan back then and after him there was a pretty steady stream of Conchs that made their way to the U through the years including Coach Harold Allen who lived across the street from me when he coached the Key West HS team before he moved on to the U which gave me reasons to continue to root for the Canes growing up.

When we beat aTm there was a lot of joy but I felt it was more of showing the CFB world we belonged more than anything else and I was estactic with the team that they shut a lot of people up.

When we beat OSU there was a steady stream of tears that came down cause not only did it move us one game closer to #6 but most of us who were around when # 6 was stolen from us know why that win was so special.

As the Ole Miss game to a close I’m not gonna lie I was in pretty good/bad shape lol cause we were almost there and l knew my prayer for relevance and #6 was almost answered and as luck would have it we were going home to try and win number 6 against a team that everyone except Cane fans say can’t be beat kind of like Nebraska was in ‘83 when they showed up at our home field with everyone saying we had no shot.We all know how that turned out.

When we win Monday night it will be very special for a lot of us older guys cause I’m willing to bet that I’m not alone in thinking that we’d never see #6 happen in our lifetimes.I will thank the Lord for answering all those prayers over the years but I’m not insane enough to think I was the only one with this prayer and I’m pretty sure that even Hoosier fans even being sure they will smoke us I’m pretty sure there will be many of them on their knees before the game asking for the the same thing as I am asking for only with the opposite result.I’m Hoping God is a Cane fan.

But it will be one great night when we win Monday Night. There will be a lot of tears among family members who like me have been lifelong Cane Fans ,many like myself for more than 50yrs and I’m just hoping my old heart holds up through all the madness of the game and the joy and yelling through and after the game but One thing is for sure if I make it to Tuesday morning I will first thank God for answering my prayer of roughly 25 or so years and I’ll start a new prayer that morning asking the Good Lord to let me be around to see #7.
Nuff said. First sentence says it all.

I was such an arrogant prick when I was in HS and 20’s lol. I’d bet people and give ridiculous points to them. We’d be favored by 7 and I’d be like “ make it 14, we’re beating your asses “. In HS i’d get off the bus in the unloading zone doing the tomahawk chop and screaming their way chant after beating FSU. Looking back I was so awful
I was 22 for Wide Right III. My god the heat. Drinking beer to survive. I told an old lady a Seminole fan doing the chop and carrying on during halftime I 95 north *****. Get the **** out. It makes me cringe. Almost sick to my stomach.

/to be fair she was being a *****

To this day that game is one of the hottest days I can ever remember.

This has been the season of the ages! What a ride!!!!

We comin again tho......this isn't 2001.
In 2001 we were two plays away from losing two games. This year, we were two plays away from being undefeated. Funny the difference two plays make.

Our opponent is also just two plays away from having two losses. Tomorrow night, we show them that they are not superior to us just because of those two plays.

Well said. I’m a younger fan than most, only witnessed ‘01 with my own eyes. I legitimately thought we’d never reach the precipice of this mountain again. Always held out hope but that nagging sense of repeated failure ate at me.

This run has been so cathartic and such a release for the crap we’ve all dealt with. I do enjoy seeing the younger guys who witnessed Manny, MTSU, etc. But for those of us who saw the OB get disgraced in its closing, Pata’s murder, ST’s murder, Shannon’s failures, Coker ruining the crown jewel of CFB and so on needed this.

I always thought the Vikings winning a Super Bowl would be the crown jewel for my football fandom. But living through this run this year has told me I was wrong.

I have watched countless videos on TikTok, Twitter, wherever of fans in tears watching Beck score in the fiesta Bowl. It has put everything in perspective for me. We’ve all bled and died with this team for two decades. This run has been nothing short of amazing. And when it ends on Monday with our prodigal son coming home it’ll be a full circle moment.
