I know this has been talked about for a while now, but don't think I saw anything outside or message board rumors before or any specifics of how an expanded class numbers would be set (apologies if this was already linked somewhere).

Multiple officials spoke to Sports Illustrated under the condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of ongoing deliberations on the proposals.

A compromise is finally emerging among a group of proposals. Under the plan, schools can sign 25 new players while gaining additional signee spots for every player who transfers out of their program—up to a certain limit. The extra spots would be based on the number of players who enter the transfer portal under their own volition and would be capped at a figure, such as seven.

For instance, a school that loses five players to the portal can sign 30 new players. A school that loses 10 players to the portal can sign 32 new signees, if the cap were seven. The replacement cap has not been finalized.

In fact, other proposals are being discussed as well, including one that simply increases the total signees to 30, 32 or 35. Another proposal, still being vetted, would require a school to use its 25 spots on high school players and would give a school an additional five to seven spots for transfers.

The impetus for immediate action on the topic is a result of policy changes that are leaving—and will leave—many schools well short of the overall 85 scholarship limit. While schools are limited to having 85 scholarship players a year, they are restricted to signing 25 players in a single class. The 100 signees over four years leaves a 15-player wiggle room for natural attrition.

It's important to keep the HS number and the Portal number separate.

Outside of the "7 transfers cap", this proposal is EXACTLY what multiple people on the board have been calling for....over the past two years...

Maybe Emmert reads our board after all...

Glad to see the NCAA moving efficiently for the betterment of the athletes...

Why? Is it a problem for Alabama to cast off it's undesirables and be able to take even more 5 stars out of HS?

They should do it on classes lost…if you lose a guy with 3 yrs left and a guy with 2 yrs left you can fill 5 classes up to a certain limit or you will have places like Bama running off Srs that are no longer wanted and filling them with more 5* Freshmen. Then it will be worse cause you’ll have a bunch of older marginal players that will wander around the portal trying to find a place to finish their degree..

Not everything is measured in terms of "Alabama". For instance, this shouldn't be a method where F$U is able to sign 32 HS kids or 12 Portal transfers (or if they do, they have to cannibalize the HS ICs). The point of expanding the numbers is to BOTH give HS kids unlucky enough to be born 16 years before the "immediate eligibility rule" sparked a Portal explosion a chance to get scholarships, while also not creating an infinite supply of transfer slots. Get a fair number of Portal kids moving (7 transfer slots x 120 D-1A schools is over 800 kids moving to new homes) while still allowing normal HS signing classes.

Alabama, by virtue of its position, is ALWAYS going to be able to cast off its undesirables and take replacements, whether those are HS or transfer replacements. The rest of us have not been so fortunate.

That's a very progressive and equitable solution, and also one that is INCREDIBLY hard to manage and/or police.

By Bama, I mean those top 5 teams that skew the parity in CFB.

Why? You usually know how many yrs a guy you’re cutting has and how many a guy you’re picking up has..But there’d definitely have to be a number of years limit….Did they ever mandate that scholarship’s were guaranteed for so many years.I know it was being talked about changing them from yearly.

Do you think we start taking more shots on local three stars now? Get those guys who go out of state and ball out at Pitt or Central Michigan, like Tutu Atwell.

Does this bring any new names? Or plan c kids we have slow played this class?
