Saturday Victory

Does this game feel like UCLA - UM in 1998. Highlights below

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQHIPVIN5OI

As I rewatched the highlights, I noticed the following parallels that feel strangely similar to this game.

- Unranked UM vs. #3 undefeated team in nation with national championship implications late in the season.
- Butch's first real signature win at UM
- We had a stud RB carry us
- UCLA QB was heisman trophy candidate...
- This game gave UM chance to make up for some bad losses earlier in the season
- This game put UM back on the map and showed a glimpse of future success to come over the next 3 to 5 years

Just listening to the intro to the game and the 9:30 mark where they talk about UM ending long winning streaks.... Just feels similar.

Now, we got very lucky in that game. We got two late turnovers where UCLA made big plays. I think we will have to have some similar plays fall our way if we are to be successful on Saturday. But what stood out to me was how disciplined we were in our game plan. We ran it, and ran it, and ran it some more. We were running while down 10 with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter.... I hope we are that disciplined on Saturday. I hope our players believe they can pull this off. I hope we play aggressive and play to win.

It is all there, just need to take it.... Duke, this is your chance to surpass Edge...

I'm gonna say it and maybe I'll take some flack for it but....if you told me I could only have 1 or the other...

I'd rather win this game then a bowl game right now. I just want to end those fu*kers season and win streak. I want to gloat and talk sh*t to their fans for 365 days and remind them who ended their season.

I used to hate Florida more but my hate is becoming stronger for fsu because of the smug motherf*cker Winston and Jimbo I'm sick of them.

The only way we don't win this is if golden plays it safe and curls up in the fetal position like he did against UL.

Sorry, I don't buy our defense yet. I just don't. I'm hoping, but call me Missouri

Don't have to buy our defense. We're going to get scored on. The hope is we won't concede full control of the pace of the game and "hope" for FSU to fall into a mistake.

LOL, I pray you're right Lu, but I fear you'll be completely wrong. I think we get housed on Sat...

OL scares the **** out of me, state is gonna bring lots of pressure.

Don't know what the f is gonna happen. Predictions, like I said, are guesses. But, I think we have as much or more talent than Louisville and NC State. Both pushed FSU to its limits. I haven't seen anything scary from FSU on film. Going into last year's game, I thought we'd have to get very lucky. I don't feel that way this year.

One thing that NC State had that we won't: Brissett climbed the pocket and moved around really well; Kaaya will not. We have to dictate FSU's willingness to risk/blitz. Only way we can do that is to take shots.

This game, staying with FSU, is about a willingness to keep taking shots on defense and offense.

Am curious about all the optimism. Do posters think we have as much talent as FSU or are we coached better. If our talent is close that would mean Golden has a good eye for talent as FSU is stocked with significantly more 4 and 5 star recruits.

VT brought tons of pressure too.. we handled it surprisingly well.

FSU definetly likes to dump the ball to the RB in the flat. We have done a MUCH better job of doing that this year as well. Look for that on 3rd downs from them. Anything under 5 yards they love to do that and it works almost every time bc the D is worried about the downfield passing game and it's usually pretty wide open. I think we will play man on a lot of the 3rd downs.

If we miss, we're going to get sliced for chunks of yards. I think this is the perfect situation to be ok with that.

Lu, always love your stuff... but you typed this while sober? With a straight face?

The first sign of giving up a chunk play I expect the Defense to go into safe mode, any and every OC should do this on their first drive and take a shot at us so we scrap gameplan and play safe no matter what. Nebraska did it, I thought UNC would too, but they always like to start with their horizontal stuff in games...

Lol, at that line though

Hey, man, maybe it's a trap, but that's not what I'm hearing from inside the program. Maybe they're being lied to as well.

Ya'll know how I feel about Golden's tendencies and the philosophy he's carried out here over the last few years. It's the exact opposite of what I appreciate and admire. I've questioned whether the guy can be the coach who'll ever consistently win meaningful games. All that said, I think this situation lines up for him…if he's willing to grab it.

Got to agree with Lu. We have the team to win this. It is on Al. Can he coach even close to Dumbo? Jimbo would beat the living crap out of his own team with our players.
yep

I hope these kids bring what they brought against Florida last year.. a whole lot of "**** you, I'm here to bring you pain. I'm not scared." and then.. "When you leave here you're going to have nightmares of me coming to get you again next year in your house!"

FSU needs a statement game bad, the talking heads are down on them. This will not be the game they were looking for. Canes are gonna prove the talking heads right about FSU...very lucky so far.

Look, spaghetti arms. This is my dance space. This is your dance space. I don't go into yours, you don't go into mine. You gotta hold the frame.

Dalton: All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.

This game comes down to one of my favorite sayings: "Ya gotta risk it for The biscuit." If we played scared and conservative this will be a blow out. If we take some chances I think we'll be right in it till the end.

No doubt that FSU is more talented, but as we know just from our history, most talented team doesn't always win, two games at the Fiesta Bowl come to mind.

The 2010 FSU@UM game comes to mind. Just sayin'.

I think the talent is closer than you might think.

They have the best player of all the WR but collectively we have a better group.
We're better along the offensive line
We have the better running backs
We're better at LB

They have the better QB
They have the better defensive line
They have the better secondary, though the separation isn't as great as it was last year.
They've got us in the kicking game

TE's are a wash

They've got more top end NFL talent, but we've got PLENTY of guys who will play on Sundays AND I think we have the best football player on the field.

I said that in another thread and me boys and I were talking about this as well. It does have an eerie feeling of that year!
