Samson okunlola position next year?

Left Guard, He has found a home & position to Master.It took Him while but
He proved to be Resilient.

Him & Cantwell could form a formidable run blocking Duo.

I’ve talked about it plenty throughout the season and playoff run. Just go ahead and look at how badly he got abused on becks int in the championship game

He has been the 6th best lineman the past 2 years. It's not bashing his performance last year was worse than Samson and the year before it was worse than Rivers. Maybe he is good at tackle, but he was only ok at guard.

Do you think he's maxed out or can get better? Saying he was "the worst" when the other three were drafted doesn't really say a lot. Personally, I think he was pretty good. And if he takes another step, he could become draftable himself. RT may be a better position for him than guard.

Yes but a healthy Samson could/should be one of the best OL in the country. What's more important is how will McCoy perform again playoff caliber DL while at RT? You're projecting it will be a weakness. I don't think he'll be Mauigoa. But do think he'll grade out just fine.

Coaches will find out in August. Miami DL is better than any we will play all year. If he can block on Greentrree, he will be able to block on Saturdays

That's not a terrible thing when the others were Mauigoa, Anez, Samson, Bell, and Brockmeyer.

He was a bit iffy in pass protection at times. Losing a few pounds might help. Needs to continue improving if he wants to get drafted.

I can’t say you’re wrong there. Cantwell having Samson beside him at LG helps him tremendously. Then have McCoy at RG beside the best candidate for RT, whoever that may be. If we’re gonna continue to be a team that pounds the ball up the middle and punches teams in the mouth, that interior OL needs both Samson and McCoy in the middle.

Yep....as of now OGs 2 & 3 are Buchanan and Alofaituli, and that may not be good enough.

Yep....as of now OGs 2 & 3 are Buchanan and Alofaituli, and that may not be good enough.

Meriweather has the size and athleticism, maybe he’s the RT. Obviously none of them will be as good as Cici was, but they just have to be good enough at the tackle position. The interior needs to be elite because that’s how we dominate opponents in the run game and eventually, we will meet a team in the playoffs (Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame) who has elite pass rushers on the interior and we’re gonna need Samson and McCoy inside to negate that. Doesn’t matter how good your offense is if the other team’s DT’s are in your QB’s face every other pass play.

I believe that’s goal number one for him now that he’s playing right tackle. I think we’ll see a different body type from him this summer.
 
The reason people are down on McCoy is because we had high expectations for him because CIS staff said the UM staff truly believed he had 1st round draft pick level talent. That’s tough expectations to live up to. Because we definitely didn’t see that this past season.

I'm surprised more of our fans don't agree. Feels weird moving McCoy back to tackle after starting 20+ games at guard the last two seasons. Nothing against Buchanan or Alofaituli but they are 2nd year guys who haven't played a meaningful snap at guard. An IOL of Okunlola, Rodriguez, McCoy would be among the oldest and most experienced in cfb.
 
I’m far more worried about the center position than I am McCoy.

If McCoy is the RT, I trust him to be at least solid. But the OL as a whole is the only thing causing me to pump the brakes on the true ceiling of this team, and truthfully with who coaches here, that’s the best possible scenario for your biggest question mark.

I’ll be shocked if Mario and Alex trot out a line that handicaps this team. Just get in someone’s way most of the time and let the best collection of skill talent in America cook with hot *** grease.
 
Id think where samson plays depends on if mccoy is at rt or lg. Mccoy at rt = samson at lg, mccoy at lg = samson at rt or rg
