Samson okunlola position next year?

Is there a snowball's chance in **** that Jacob Hawks can be trained to play RT in 2026? Can't help but envision McCoy at RG, a position at which he's lined up numerous times since 2023. I do worry somewhat about a second year Max Buchanan handling RG. Would almost rather have the larger McCoy play guard with Hawks (or whoever else) at RT protected by a tight end.

With him being a summer enrollee, doubtful.

Did a legit double take and then looked at poster name. Rok, you're the man. You've got to be trolling hard on this one.

Buchanan is going to be solid, at minimum.

Haven't heard a thing on Hawks and would expect him to not get any meaningful snaps this season. Maybe someone else heard differently?

***** you. I'm asking if there's a snowball's chance that Hawks might contribute, and you're over here accusing me of trolling.

I don't think it's laughable to assume that Buchanan may not be ready, or that Hawks has no shot at seeing meaningful snaps in 2026. Of course we haven't heard anything about Hawks since he probably just enrolled, and no one outside of Kansas has seen him play.

Buchanan was certainly more highly rated out of HS, but what do we know about him aside from what we saw in mop-up duty, and what his coaches say about his talent/development?

It's encouraging that he was second team RG at the end of the year, and I'm sure he'd do fine but Buchanan is not exactly an overwhelmingly large man, and if Hawks could somehow hold his own at RT then that would be my own ideal scenario for the right side: 6'6 325 RG McCoy / 6'9 330 RT Hawks.

Yeah it doesn't appear likely based on that, but he'll have a solid few months on campus, and maybe he'll insert himself into the mix somehow. The only reason to be excited about Hawks is his size, and that's not teachable.

As Bill Walsh once said, "or you got it, or you don't", and that's the one thing Hawks has that very few others possess. Maybe he'll respond right away and become a serious competitor early on, and maybe he'll never play a down here.

When you mentioned Hawks as a legit possibility to start, I thought you were f’in around like you sometimes do. I think we see either McCoy, Samson, or Meriweather at RT. I think they really like Buchanan at G. I know I do. Only thing I heard said about Hawks is he’s extremely raw. We’re hopefully going to make a run. Now seems like a bad time for that experiment.

Coaches felt Buchanan could of played last year if they needed him. It just wasn’t any snaps at guard with cooper, McCoy and Samson

I sat next to Buchanan's parents at the NC State game, and his dad was excited but dubious about Max playing in his 5th game and burning his RS. Think we both agreed it was a sign that Mirabal trusts him and wants to make sure he's ready for 2026. My only wish is for him to have played some meaningful snaps in 2025.

McCoy at RT makes plenty of sense, although I still believe he'd help us most at guard. We handled teams with elite DTs throughout the playoffs because we were well-equipped at guard with Cooper, McCoy/Okunlola, and I don't love the idea of removing both Cooper and McCoy from that equation.

Whether it's Meriweather, Congdon, Hawks, Wilkerson...we just need the RT to be serviceable since Mensah loves to move around the pocket, and we can always find creative ways to help a brother out with chips, max protect, etc. It's more important that the interior OL is as good as it can be, and maybe that's achieved with Buchanan at RG, I'm just a little skeptical after three consecutive seasons with Cooper as our starting RG.

Telling yall our IOL could be better this year, it’s the tackles we should be worried about. Not like super worried but we just need it to be elite again
