Patterson was definitely interested and would have come. But Shalala pulled the last minute pc card and hired Shannon. My college roommate worked in the provost office and he knew the details. He got sick of DS's constantly micromanaging every thing,.

I know this...but try telling @ItsAUThing.com that....same guy who said UM had interest in Butch in 06...which is a Bold faced lie....Tell Butch today that in 06 UM had interest in him, and he'd laugh in your face.

Lol at UM interested in Butch in 06...if you think they hated him from 95-2000....they friggin abhorred him in 06, even though he had support all those yrs from Paul Di'mare and Stu Miller, who were the 2 most Powerful BOT members. That tells you what the other members thought of Butch, especially that POS Hilarie Bass...
 
I'll admit that for the first time in a while, they seemed to have done a lot of the open-wallet spender stuff, and that these things do take some time.

It doesn't make me less disappointed though that we are very far from bacccck, that there was all this hype (including a pre-season ranking and expectations) which has evaporated into the nether, and some of the rather well educated sports minds and voices on CIS and elsewhere are pointing out that the personnel and play selection still seems seriously amiss. as in: a MISS! (hope that fixes soon, aint gettin any younger).

Greg Schiano didn't even want the job in 2006 when it was offered; y'all really think a clean-cut, Kansas-bred Gary Patterson wanted anything to do with Miami when he was 54-19 at TCU with two Big 12 titles in six seasons?

Back to our fans thinking this is a better job than it really is—especially back in 2006 when this program was toxic.

The best Miami could've (and should've) done in 2006 was to hire Butch Davis back, which they had a shot at before UNC snatched him up (weeks before Coker was let go. Five years removed from the program he rebuilt, that was the only coach would've wanted it and fit the brand.

Patterson was never leaving TCU for Miami. Stop that nonsense. Nobody wanted the job back then, hence why The Onlon got the promotion. Miami even did a search for that 2006 hiring season and no one wanted to touch UM with a ten-foot pole.

FYI, TCU wasn't in the Big XII at that time, they were in the Mountain West
