When does he decommit? He said he will go to see home and away games for the Gators.
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Miami receiver commit Sam Bruce caught 10 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns during Thursday’s preseason game against Dillard. The St. Thomas Aquinas star’s scores came from 44 and 45 yards.
It is performances like the one Bruce gave Thursday that has the Florida Gators continuing their pursuit of the four-star prospect in hopes of a flip. The Gators are in line to get an official visit from Bruce, as well as a likely unofficial visit for their season opener on September 5.
“I talk to Florida almost every day man,” Bruce told 247Sports. “Coach [Jim] McElwain, we’ve built a great relationship. Coach [Tim Skipper] is the recruiter for down here, and we’ve built a great relationship, Coach [Drew] Hughes too. All in all, it’s been nothing but love from Florida, my best friend is there.”
Bruce will even see the Gators play on the road this season.
“I’ll also be at Florida-South Carolina game, at South Carolina. I have some players that I look up to that play for South Carolina – Chris Lammons, Al Harris – those are some of my dudes. I’m going to go hang out with them, check out their team and watch Florida. Just have a good time.”
Beyond that, Bruce has only set dates for two of his five planned official visits.
“As of now, just Miami I believe October 24 against Clemson and the Ohio State-Penn State game (October 17).”
With Bruce planning all of these other visits, should the Hurricanes worry about his pledge?
“As of now, I’m committed to Miami,” Bruce answered. “I’m very solid to Miami, I love Miami. It’s my home, 45 minutes away from home. I can see my family, my family can see me play every home game. It just looks great right now. I’ll be able to go in and compete for a starting position. Hopefully, get number six, and the main thing was majoring in sports broadcasting. Miami has one of the best communication departments in the nation, and that was a very big thing for me.”
