UM is trying to win the college playoffs, not the super bowl... Even if he's maxed out, his production in college is all that matters... That being said, I don't think he's maxed out... If players like Wsyne Chrebet and Wes Welker can make it with limited physical attributes, if Bruce applies himself he can be a successful pro... Where has this theory of being maxed out come from? Production is production...
Exactly.
I've heard this from a few coaches, but it's because he's been relatively the same size since 8th grade. He's also short and doesn't posses "elite" break away speed (100m time isn't impressive). Kid's gained muscle, though. He only runs in the 4.5's, but can cut on a dime and has an elite burst. Reminds me a lot of Peter Warrick and Tavon Austin coming out of hs. Those two had elite college careers. Would probably be our best cornerback recruit, if he decided to play defense.
Yes you're right Sam Bruce lacks top notch speed in fact for a guy who has elite quickness I'm suprised he's that slow.
But that quickness, his ability to make people miss in the open field, his 100% elite.
Warrick and Austin didn't have elite long speed, either.
botht hose guys are faster than Bruce.
But elite long speed is reall overrated.
Austin never broke 11 seconds in hs. Warrick also ran a 4.55 and 4.56 for pro scouts. The knock on him was his speed. Both of them could play RB, depending on the scheme. Just get the ball in their hands.
Hester was obviously a lot faster, but never had an elite 40 or 100m time. He possessed, more than likely the most elite burst and change of direction, ever in football. He didn't even run the fastest 40 at the Miami nike combine when I was in hs. That was Terrell Walden who played WR/CB for us and my boy Mike Williams from Cardinal Gibbons. Both ran 4.2's.
Bruce has one of the best 0-20yd bursts and change of direction from watching HS in SFL, as well as OOS HS football, that I can remember since the mid 90's.
