Sam Bruce Working

Honestly, Sam Bruce is built like a RB. He's probably like 5'9 185 right now with a stocky build similar to a Darren Sproles.

He's an elite slot WR with routes, hands, and open field play making ability.. but I wouldn't mind seeing him utilized like the Saints used Sproles. His ceiling might be limited at WR as far as draft and NFL future. Teams would be all over him if he showed ability to be used in the backfield though.

But to clarify.. it's obvious that the more immediate need is at WR and he needs to focus on that his freshman year.. then as he gets to be a soph, junior, and senior and depth becomes better at the position.. he should definitely start expanding his roll to a 3rd down back in addition to the slot.

How much taller is that saints wide out who got drafted in the 1st round a couple years ago from Oregon st?? He's like 5'11??

Brandin Cooks. He's listed at a generous 5'10, probably 5'8. Bruce (I said 5'9) is probably about 5'7-5'8. That's the type of player I see Bruce as being. Maybe just lacking the top end speed that Cooks has.

Bruce is already more bulked up than Cooks was before he got to the NFL though. Bruce is just never going to run the 4.33 that Cooks ran at the combine. (which is the only reason he was a 1st rounder) He just looks very Sproles-esque to me.

Couple more facts: Sam ain't 5'9. And Steve Smith is a HOF WR.

Yep,Steve smith is the exception to the rule, he's a freak athlete with a major case of little man syndrome.

Not one down played and he's already Steve Smith.

There is absolutely no way anybody knows he's like SS.

SS is not only a great receiver, he's an absolute dog and looks and acts like he'll throw hands at any moment. He is tough as nails.

We have no idea what Bruce is other than short, quick, pretty fast, excellent acceleration with decent hands, and a very good HS player that a lot of schools wanted. That's it. That doesn't make him Steve Smith. It doesn't make him Berrios, who's actually caught some passes in Division 1 NCAA football games.

What it makes is a very good prospect in the slot and possibly returning kicks. Hopefully this year. Let's see if he can get through some practices before we crown him.

Sam bruce can be dynamic if you give him the ball and he has that dog in him. He plays like an old school cane...

Can't wait to see this kid light it up out there. He starts in the slot from day 1.

Pfft. We in real bad shape when we have to rely on an incoming freshman. When we used to be stacked, Bruce would redshirt.

Doesn't do any good to remember what we used to be. The fact is we are trying to get back there and Bruce is a step in the right direction. After coley name another receiver with legit elite quickness and cutting ability ? I'll wait. We need these young guns like Richards and Bruce to come in and contribute.

I think Berrios fits that mold since he has shredded some pounds, coley obviously and Bruce, Mullins and Richards are very talented as well. Throw in the big targets like langham, Harris and cager and I'm not worried.

See, the thing is none of this matters. Sam, nor none of the receivers or running backs are going to win Jack for this team. Where Miami has failed and fsu has excelled, is signing dudes for the OL and DL. We will always get playmakers, but the last 3 regimes have crippled us with their trench recruiting. In the last 2 years, fsu has recruited a4 star OL and a 4 star DL and we can't touch that because our trench recruiting has been horrible compared to them.

Can the kid play a down of college football before the Steve Smith comparisons come out?

Da **** man

You guys will argue about anything. Bruce is a perfect college scat back/wr. Thankfully this staff will have a clue on how to use him.

Are people really getting lathered up over a 15 second video of low weight biceps curls?

I'm saying Steve SMITH from the point that he's short. I'm responding to the poster that yeah so what he is short there have been short WR1 on many teams. Steve Smith being one example.

Not saying the kid is the next Steve Smith.
