Saban on changes in the game of football

Using a fullback and a tight end won’t get you into the end zone if your line doesn’t block. If anything it will just bring more defenders into the middle of the field, right where you’re attempting to run the ball.
point being that the team was in shotgun formation wanting to run the ball up the middle at the goal line. no I formation with a fb or extra blocker

They all think Scaife had 5 false starts last week and not the center not snapping the ball with the rest of the whole offense moving
It’s nice to see somebody who knows what the **** is actually going on during games. It’s amazing we moved the ball somewhat decent and there wasn’t bigger issues with the god awful snaps. We got away with about ten false starts with those late snaps. Scaife is far from one of our biggest issues.

... i was doing this with 10 year olds from Miami Lakes. Literally with cast offs(we had A and B team) and kids that never played football in their life (our fastest player didnt speak english and was a soccer player from colombia..put him at rb). Realize all of the other teams we would play would be more talented or atleast even

**** geta ... Sounds like you need to hop on the headset tomorrow and get these mf'ers right. Cause everyone here tired of this limpdick **** we been watching

We can’t keep rolling that dude out there doing that mess. It’s unacceptable at this level.
I agree. I’ve seen it happen before to other centers, but it’s a rarity. Usually a once a game occurrence, if that. Denis was making it his specialty. Completely unacceptable at this level.

For the past 15 years I have been dreaming of the day Miami beats them so bad he retires.

My dreams never come true.....

Basically the running game is all but extinct. The kind of player today is just too big and fast much more than 20 years ago. This is completely the case in the NFL now and almost as much in college football. The ratio of run to pass is in the range of 80 to 20.
Ummm....no

Don’t tell Gattis.

That ol’ Big 8 package! Heupel the GAAAWWD.
Just stop it. Every time I see someone say this garbage…that guy runs a verified 10.4. Do we have ANY 10.4s on our team?!. speed is why he scored on that play. The Bama guy almost tripped him up. If he didn’t run again 10.4 he wouldn’t have scored. That’s one of the main things that’s wrong with us offensively. We get long gains that with really fast players would be touchdowns. And then on the same drive we mess up somewhere and don’t score or kick a field goal. Go back and watch how many times that happened this year. We need SPEED!

It happens every week in college football. Why would you need a fullback or an I formation at the goal line when you didn’t use one anywhere else? The more guys you have in tight to the formation, the more defenders will be there too. The more you spread out a defense, the more room there is to run. Get the extra defenders away from the line of scrimmage where you want to run the ball.

I'm 100% here for empty sets +5. Use the strangely built guys in this situations like Young and Skinner.

Stick-Draw with the guard wrapping for the Q could work.
Hide Mamarelli as the LT on an unbalanced form and hit him with a throwback.
I particularly like #1 on a fin, #2 on a lookie, #3 on a corner. Skinner in the back of the end zone with young running a fin and anyone who can catch a ball running the lookie (I dunno who, Gattis da GAWD gotta figure it out)
There's a lot of fun chit you can do in empty sets +5.

When you cram everyone into a small box btwn the hashes you get the same 3-4 plays.
Iso / zone lead
FB zone dive (think Navy's zone dive play, OL blocks down, PSDE is left free, FB/B-Back hammers it in)
Play-action half roll to slide-sail-vert

Even though he’s practically 0 threat to run, if you can spread the defense thin enough, Van Dyke is capable and sturdy enough to find the gap in a goal line QB designed run situation. We did it in short yardage with Brown against VT but I’m not sure they want to burn his redshirt using him every week like that. On top of the fact that it becomes predictable if you run the draw every single time he comes into the game.

He's gotten less athletic over time there. Kind of a theme

What are you talking about? I’m referring to the I Formation comment by Saban. And yes, speed matters. That goes without typing.
