S&P Rankings after Week 2

What bad officiating calls and non-calls were there?
A lot of the complaints about no pressure/pass rush are a result of UNC holding and knowing it won’t get called. This is not new, it’s been happening for years. There’s no way you can play against UM and not have multiple holding calls, yet we have long streaks of games with no holding calls. Many of their run plays were the result of holding on the edge as well. THIS is how you leverage talent.

Now if you look at the timing of Miami’s penalties, they usually happen at moments that swing momentum. The holding on Cam’s run was ridiculous, in both games, but it basically takes 7 of the board and changes how the game is played. The DL holding against us extended a drive that would have kept momentum in our favor.

I mean Carter went away from the sliding QB and got a targeting call which is not the spirit of the rule. The QB wasn’t defenseless and Carter tried to avoid him - well that had a major impact on our thin secondary. It doesn’t take much for refs to influence a game. That’s why books have been written on the subject and most refs live in one little city in Pennsylvania. Why?

This is the type of adversity that we have to learn to defeat; we need to cheat too. If we’re getting held we need to start doing some MMA **** to break arms to get free. We need to find the names of every officiating crew and perform blood rites. FI

Miami 29th overall. 43rd on offense. 28th on defense.

For those that don’t know, S&P is a metric created by Bill Connelly, who got hired by ESPN this year. In his words - “In a single sentence, it is a tempo and opponent-adjusted measure of CFB efficiency.” It has become one of the main sets of power ratings Sportsbooks use to set opening lines.

For reference, we are the highest ranked 0-2 team. Tenn is next at 47th overall, followed by Fresno at 51st. We are ahead of many 2-0 teams (including UVA at 32).

19. Utah
20. Iowa
21. Wash
22. Wash St
23. USC
24. Texas

27. OK St
28. USCe

No one is happy at 0-2, but we are still power rated as a fringe top 25 team. Hopefully we can get right before the bulk of the ACC schedule.
So we're actually good at football, just not at winning. Fck me, that's actually an improvement from last year.

Or leave the ACC and join the SEC

Or leave the ACC and join the SEC
I’m with that but I’ll throw another twist. Leave the ACC and join the AAC, bring on Georgia St. Now if you look at the campus locations, we would actually have a better geographic recruiting advantage and strength of schedule would be about the same if we keep FSU on the schedule. The AAC teams are actually in better cities and it’s a lot easier to get into Gstate than GT, both in ATL.

Right now the ACC has 2 ranked teams - Clem 1 & uva 25
The AAC has 1 - UCF at 17
We could legitimize the conference and force an 8 team playoff while playing 8-10 games in Florida every year.

The season ain't over yet, we'll be fine. Just need to make some adjustments Defensively & learn how to finish.

I think we're still going to go 9-3 with a Bowl game at the end of the year to possibly finish 10-3.

I don't think this team will quit fighting, a lot of fans are already out lol (which is expected) but the team isn't gonna lay down & die.

We are a good football team, just learning many things and putting it all together. It takes time. We must learn to finish and win games we should and we will be alright. I enjoy watching these cats this year, just has that we have not found a way to win the first two. It will come. Mark my words.

Plenty of posts have broken it down.

A game with 4 sacks and no holding? They were penalized 1 time for 5 yards, think about that. They never commuted a single hold or PI?

Missed horse collar tackle, was blatant I on DJ big run he called it too right in front of ref.

They tackled Hightower in endzone on last drive, no call again.

I missed this one but apparently there was a missed chop block, another I missed was apparently their CB hooked our receivers multiple times...

The PI on us in endzone play was BS their guy pulled a hamstring and legit fell, we tripped on him and they gave them PI.

The holding call on Cams big run was nonsense, our Olinemen legit ran the guy over moving forward, wtf else is he supposed to do.

It was fairly egregious honestly.

Had an 89% chance of winning the UNC game after the sack on 3rd down and also had an 82% chance to win the gator game after the late hit on the Baxa fake FG.

0-2.

Missed opportunities.
We also had a 75% chance of winning the UF game after the Carter INT. This team is right there and yet snatching defeat from the hands of victory.

As far as it's related to this thread, if you needed OP to post this to tell you we were the better team on Saturday night then quit watching football.

We consistently drove the ball downfield every drive after the middle of the first quarter. Put ourselves in scoring position in all but 3 drives in total for the game. And the defense would've been on the field for 20 minutes had they done the impossible and stopped them on 4th and 17 and we run out the clock after the turnover on downs.

We were a non Mark Richt eval at kicker away from winning this game. Or a Blake Baker and a TERRIBLE scheme on defense away from winning comfortably.

Imagine telling recruits “I know we went 7-5 but we were ranked 24th in S&P”

I'd sell the **** outta that. Nick Saban went 7-5 in year 1 as well. And this is someone who had actually been a headcoach at 4 other stops before hand.
