No one here is "over rating" Ryan Williams. But to say he should be a major upgrade is simply common sense. He's a big guy who can see over the line, he's a 5th year senior, hes been in the program a LONG time, he's taken real game snaps, he was clearly the #1 guy in the Spring before he blew his knee, the players have spoken very highly of him, it has been reported for 2 years now that he "knows the entire playbook back and forth".
A guy like that leading the offense is GOING to do better than a True Frosh, that only knows a little of the offense, has very little real experience in College, still doesn't have the timing of the college game down, and is playing with a crappy OC and behind a crappy OL.
Heaps is small which limits his ability to use the middle of the field, and is a transfer, so his knowledge of the offense is also limited.
Williams is by FAR the best option to actually have a respectable season. No one here think's he's going to be some superstar. But he should be serviceable if he can stay healthy on that knee. Even a SERVICABLE QB should keep us in games this season. With Duke, Walford, and the receiving Corps we have, we can be competitive with most teams.
Kaaya needs reps as a back up, without all the pressure on him, so he can learn, adjust to this level, and continue to develop. But being thrown into the fire like this, we are going to have a LONG year having to rely on a True Frosh.
