The St. Louis Cardinals purchased INF Ryan Jackson today from the Memphis Redbirds (AAA). Jackson will report to Philadelphia and be available for tonight’s game vs. the Phillies (6:05 CT). He will be making his Major League debut and wearing uniform #8.

The 24 year-old Jackson has appeared in 113 games for the club’s Triple-A team, playing 98 games at shortstop and 13 at second base. He holds a .269 average with 23 doubles, 10 home runs and 45 RBI for Memphis. Jackson becomes the eighth player to make his Major League debut for the Cardinals this season, joining Matt Adams, Barrett Browning, Chuckie Fick, Sam Freeman, Joe Kelly, Erik Komatsu and Trevor Rosenthal.

Jackson was drafted in the 5th round of the June 2009 draft by the Cardinals out of the University of Miami-Florida, where he was a teammate of current Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay. He was a member of the 2008 Team USA Baseball National team. In 2011 he was named the Best Defensive Infielder in the Cardinals organization by Baseball America.
