How many times did we need to see the same RPO handoff last night?

There was not one pitch out, trap, counter, a WR taking a sweep, nothing.

I know the QB starting in the shotgun has been the way of football for the last ten years but geez, the old traditional under center QB who hands the ball off to a RB already going downhill still IMO is the better run play

Edgerrin, Portis, McGahee all traditional RBs at Miami.

It was beyond mystifying. In my section we were debating whether TVD was injured and they were calling plays to protect an injured arm. The playcalling was THAT BAD.


The problem with all of those excessively simplistic run plays is that they rarely generate chuck plays.

Interesting point. One of the first things Mario said last night in his postgame was that TVD was healthy. He offered that unsolicited.
 
Maybe the coaches thought they out talented GT so much they could be basic? Whatever the case I'm not sure why they didn't do something to jump start the offense earlier. A reverse, jet sweep, even a simple pitch would have given GT something different to think about. We made it too easy for them.

That is interesting. Last night we saw TVD throw a couple sidearm ducks. I was sitting with a guy who is a former high school OC/QB coach. He kept making note of TVD's mechanics looking off. The excessive run plays, the lack of any kind of vertical passing game, and TVD's intermittent mechanical issues led me to believe TVD was injured.

In fact, with 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, I think it was after TVD threw his second pick, I suggest that Mario go to Emory Williams for a series just to spell TVD and see if Williams could spark something. My thought was that Williams could get the final series of the 3rd quarter then bring TVD back in for the 4th quarter. I guess that kind of thinking is a bit too advanced for Mario's checkers playing mind.

I misspoke, I meant to say the same type of handoff where the QB gets the ball and gives to a stationary RB

I still dont understand why we, or any team, doesnt do the traditional handoff where the RB is already running forward and not still

Play calling was very frustrating for sure. Very vanilla and no creativity. We weren't exactly getting stuffed every play. Several 1-2 yard runs, but also 4-5 yard runs. No runs for negative yards that I can remember, but very few chunk plays. Longest runs were 12 yard gains by both Parish and Chaney. Either way, it wasn't enough. I don't know what Dawson was thinking. Maybe he thought we were doing just enough that he didn't need to be more creative?

We definitely got stuffed for loss multiple times. Mostly Parrish dancing around the backfield

Nope this was the game to have the package for Jacurri Brown with the run game....He has 4 games to take a shirt.

You are correct. Parrish did have two runs for negative yards. One was a 2 yd loss, the other was 1 yd loss. Channey also had a run where he lost 2 yards.
 
Why not CJ24 more either? His speed and he could have been the one to break a big run. Not sure why Allen even gets carries

Not a RB but where was Ray Ray lasy night too?

Maybe arrogant maybe a tad conservative maybe the rain and field conditions not sure, but offense was off, and TVD was off.

Felt the OL played well in pass protection, but the run blocking was a mixed bag.

Got stoned and tackles for loss too much for a weak GT run defense. Now after they were embarrassed last week, you knew the effort was going to be monumentally better from them, but maybe our OL isn't quite as good as we thought. Maybe they didn't take GT seriously enough, and maybe GT coordinator schemed up a good plan.

I didn't see much creativity in the run game, and Parrish is a really solid back, but on his one play where it look like he could get a really big gain I feel like a McGahee, Gore, or Edge type talent maybe could have house called it. We have solid talent in the backfield, but not elite talent.

Longest run of thr entire season is owned by TVD (39yds). Good teams have explosive plays in the running game pretty routinely. .makes you wonder if we only have 1 back capable if extending runs as well as the oline has been blocking. That rb doesn't even play (CJ)

Any OC with a mindset of "I don't need to be more creative in some fashion" can get tf outta my face. It doesn't take a Ph D to be more creative than the garbage I witnessed last night. Not ONE misdirection run play, not ONE wheel route, not ONE end around, just the same Ole halfback buck plays....Get that garbage outta my face.
