Talking about recruiting: "We're going to represent Miami correctly."

That explains a lot. He must have felt the previous staff didn't and that might explain their failures locally and especially at Heritage.

That's what I took out of it... The previous staph didn't know how to deal with recruiting locally and he wasn't sending his kids at Heritage to Folden's dumpster.

He could be our version of Corey Raymond. Might not have as much of collegiate experience as CR coming into the position but the job he did at AH shows potential. Honestly Beard was more risky than Rumph & that worked out fine.

Paul Williams actually was not a horrible DB coach. Gunter will be a rising star with the Packers...Burns will be a 2nd or 3rd round pick...Elder will be a 2/3 round pick next year.. Paul was average as average can be.... His problem was he couldnt recruit worth a **** and no DB worth his salt wanted to play for him. Hence his demise.

This is exaclty why Paul Williams was a horrible DB coach. Artie had the potential to go first round maybe even top 15.
 
After listening to the podcast

When asked about recruiting Mike Rumph said “ I will not take no for an answer”

He is very ,very excited and very confident. He will do a great job as a recruiter and a coach.

Yep, loved how he was like I know what the University has to offer and I am not taking no for an answer when talking about recruiting lol. Sounds like he is ready for it and has a good balance of c0ckiness/confidence/humility. Think he is going to be good for us.

He basically said that in an interview in the past. I remember reading it. I will see if I can dig it up. OF course when it was said, the Golden guys were defending Golden and crew saying Rumph's school was bought and paid for.
 
Mike Rumph is 100x the CB coach Paul Williams could ever dream of being RIGHT NOW.

Williams gets zero credit for the success of any of our DB's. They were successful in spite of him.

He was the most disliked coach on the staff locally as verified by many.

Mike Rumph was one of the biggest critics of Al Golden. Disliked everything about the way he ran the program.

I commend him for having principle and not sucking up to Golden or pimping his kids to get a job on the staff.
 
Artie Burns floor as a football player is as a 2/3 round pick. There is noting Paul Williams or Dnofrio could have done to lower his floor other than kick him off the team or not play him.

If Burns played in a press man 4-3 defense in college and was able to showcase his true ability......he would be a top 15 pick.

This is a huge maybe here. Williams couldnt help the scheme that he was forced to play his DBs in..that was Dno all the way. Burns has 1st round measurables but the light didnt come on until this year for him..If he had stayed another year he would have been a 1st round pick. Because of the scheme change mostly. Not coaching.

Mike Rumph is gonna roll up with a big fat national championship ring and a 6 year NFL resume and get whoever the F**k HE WANTS.

Rumph will be our version of Tavaris Robinson.

A big part was scheme but it was widely reported that most of the players and local high school coaches did not like him.

i heard him on wqam BEFORE richt was hired discussing how UM had mishandled the local HS's and recruiting. that he was seeing a lot more of the out of town guys than he was our guys etc. not to use a cliché that people hate on this board but in my opinion Rumph "gets it." he is a lot more than a former player turned coach. he is a rising star in coaching in my opinion. others with more knowledge might disagree and I respect that but I think this is a really good hire.

Exactly my point..so you brought up scheme..whos fault is that ultimately? Dont tell me you are one of those guys who felt like we should have fired assistants and kept Golden??? The scheme was Goldens. Williams just played to it..

Listen I didnt say Williams was a good DB coach. I said he was average and that he wasnt as horrible as some make him out to be. But he was a horrible recruiter.
