Rumph on WQAM at 7 am

Excited for the opportunity as CB coach at the U
Excited for 4-3 blitz/ man to man
Already have really good players but will be knocking on doors locally
Not currently recruiting
Has meetings this week to discuss going forward
Coach Richt is family oriented man (we already knew) Mentioned Sony in reference to this
Will not be involved in AH hiring process. Has received so many calls since his new hires
Rest of AH staff he expects to stay together for the most part. Really likes Surtain Sr.

But but but, FullyEricht said Diaz plays zone and won't change.

Go Canes!

fully isn't wrong there. diaz's bad years at texas were when they ran primarily man coverage. he heavily favors zone coverage because the safeties are a huge part of what allows his defense to be so aggressive. if the blitz gets picked up, the underneath routes are wide open. if a runner breaks past the line, he will have some good space in the second level to run with. the safeties are there to limit the damage if the offense holds up their blocks.

Rumph can be an average-above average CB coach but if he can reel in top notch DB recruits we will be just fine. Whether he can recruit big time DB talent will make or break him. There are alot of superstud DBs coming in the 2017 and 2018 classes in SoFla alone that we cannot allow to leave the area.

Paul Williams actually was not a horrible DB coach. Gunter will be a rising star with the Packers...Burns will be a 2nd or 3rd round pick...Elder will be a 2/3 round pick next year.. Paul was average as average can be.... His problem was he couldnt recruit worth a **** and no DB worth his salt wanted to play for him. Hence his demise.

I call bull**** on that one. Just cause players became good once they left here has nothing to do with him. The one glaring fact that's a testament to what a horrible coach he is is that kids come in & regress under him. He teaches zero technique. Just look how often the DB's would be lost in coverage.

Mike Rumph is gonna roll up with a big fat national championship ring and a 6 year NFL resume and get whoever the F**k HE WANTS.

Rumph will be our version of Tavaris Robinson.

When asked about recruiting Mike Rumph said “ I will not take no for an answer”

He is very ,very excited and very confident. He will do a great job as a recruiter and a coach.

Unlike most I liked the Rumph hire..BUT hes got some fences to mend with me because ultimately he is a liar in regards to how he portrayed the Sony recruitment on radio. If he does well, all is forgiven.

A. Hard to blame him;

B. While I wanted Sony too, we have no shortage of scat back types on the radar...if it was Gurley, I would have been real ****ed. The anger by most of us was because Michel had been on campus since like 8th grade or before and we had dedicated so much time in recruiting his ***;

B. Hope somebody else is ****ed off at the next AH coach explanation when they are sent our way instead.

Its time for Miami to start realizing that reestablishing the "State of Miami" may mean hiking up the big boy pants and recruiting like the big boys do....Richt gets it, it is just whether or not it can ever happen.

No he doesn't favor zone! Why do people make **** up. Look back throughout the years. He does what a coach is supposed to do. He ad a pts his scheme to the talent he has on hand. He runs zone when he knows he's outmatched in the secondary. Only twice in his career has he had his recruits in place. People mention that 2013 Texas team but they fail to mention all the injuries that occurred. Give the man a chance. He was selected by someone we should have far more faith in than these moron troll posters.

Thanks db305. Is Diaz' zone blitz based off **** LeBeau's playbook? If so, then the CBs would be in zone but they would be playing more of a match up zone, which I see as between zone and man to man. Am I miss reading that?

Rumph said they're not just going to be press man. Even went into why they won't, speaking about how the game has changed, mobile QBs, etc. It was probably the best part of the interview for me.

So ardent support of Zone or Man seems unnecessary.

There is not a single DB coach in the country I would take over Mike Rumph....

Corey Raymond and Tavaris Robinson included.

I thought I was the only one who double take'd on this one..I think you are going to far here bruh..You made your point that Paul Williams sucked. How about you just stop while you are ahead..lol.

Ok so this is my last comment on PW because I refuse to defend this guy throughout the thread because he is gone and good riddance to him..

The guy is gone and thank god for it..the scheme is gone and thank god for it..lets see what Rumph can do and hopefully he is an A+ recruiter because his job will depend on it.

Talking about recruiting: "We're going to represent Miami correctly."

That explains a lot. He must have felt the previous staff didn't and that might explain their failures locally and especially at Heritage.

i heard him on wqam BEFORE richt was hired discussing how UM had mishandled the local HS's and recruiting. that he was seeing a lot more of the out of town guys than he was our guys etc. not to use a cliché that people hate on this board but in my opinion Rumph "gets it." he is a lot more than a former player turned coach. he is a rising star in coaching in my opinion. others with more knowledge might disagree and I respect that but I think this is a really good hire.

What this really says is that Golden was looking for a different type of athlete to play in his systems. He literally glossed over the state of Miami for guys he wanted for his dog **** system. Just so negligent and disgusting!!

One thing I really like about Rumph is he was a physical CB. Our CBs have been WAY TOO SOFT on defending screens and defeating blocks.

It was embarrassing watching the Clemson game and seeing Artie get pancaked by a WR.

One might say he was.... too physical?

Too soon for the board for jokes about '03?

?

Sorry I'm an idiot. Was getting him and Glen Sharpe mixed up on that pass interference call against Ohio state. Been too long

that was Glenn Sharpe

Glenn Sharpe was the victim of the worst call in CFB history.

Rumph is gonna kill it. Looking forward to having physical press corners again.

Yeah. My bad got them mixed up. It's been a while. Agree though, Rumph is going to do well here

Says he's currently "looking at" CB's but he won't be recruiting South Florida for now. Found that part weird. Hopefully it's just because Richt hasn't finalized recruiting assignments.

dead period doesn't end until the 13th or 14th I think.

Also he needs to be cleared by the NCAA they need to pass a test before they can actively recruit. So it was the perfect thing to say at this time.

That's exactly right, my man... Al Golden **** all over our tradition by refusing to continue the things that brought us to dominance, putting on his wannabe JoPa tie and wrapping our U in that boring Nittany Blue and White.

He'd probably prefer a guy that played linebacker like Mark Dorito did at Ped State over a Vilma, Morgan, Marley (I'll leave Lewis out) and he'd probably ignore guys like Shockey and Walford, if he could get a TE that played like.... well, Al Golden did at Ped State.

Our 86 team that lost to Ped State is the antithesis of what he wanted to build here so guys from around then and forward on like Michael Irvin, Randall Hill, Jessie Armstead, Jeremy Shockey, Lamar Thomas, Jerome Brown, Warren Sapp.... guys that made us great.... would not get the proper attention under him nor could he and his clowns handle them as coaches.

As great as the 2001 team was, they won under Coker, for God's sake, is there a good chance Folden and Dorito would have muffed that up?

The orst thing is that Golden further wasted our brand and its time to build this Muthafakka back up to where it belongs with the coaches and players that belong here.

RISE UP CANES!!!!

I know coaches are required to take an ncaa test before they can recruit.
Maybe him being new to collage coaching he hasn't taken it yet.
That might be why he is not recruiting yet. Just a guess.

Mark Richt is one of the most elite recruiters on planet earth and has been for the last 15 years. Do you not realize he is on our staff now?
