This is my thought. Jurich is qualified no doubt but this was all setting up to be a coup by the Columbus Crew. Install their guys so the path is clear. Maybe that happens anyway. But this should be Frenk's call since he's in charge. Search firm works. Finds candidates. Frenk and his guys hire an AD. That AD is given control to evaluate the football program and make changes. At least that is how healthy athletic departments work.

this is exactly it. when a guy has been around as long and curried as much favor as blake has it was never going to be a clean break, especially since there's a lot of dysfunction in miami athletics. that shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. setting the right course by actually hiring an AD the right way is step 1 in breaking the cycle.

Why? Search firms aren’t the same as background check firms. They will present Jurich as a top candidate if they are doing their job. He has warts that the President needs to be comfortable with, but it doesn’t mean he’s killed as a candidate.

Search firms are just a tool that can be used in many different ways. In this case, I believe the search firm being activated was to a) slow down the momentum of one particular candidate and b) use the “findings” to kill his candidacy. None of that means that they won’t find viable candidates but, to me, it signifies that the dysfunction continues. Why wait to bring in the firm until now? More importantly, I believe it shows that the business as usual board members push back has gained traction, which is not good.
