I see after today we are up to #42 in the RPI. Where do we have to be at the end of the season to get in?

Ideally 40 or higher, but the only two teams .500 ACC teams with RPIs in the low 40s in the past half decade both got in. The RPI Needs Report as of this morning still says we can only lose six more games to head into the ACC Tournament with a Top 45 RPI. Can’t afford to lose one of the two remaining midweek games against FIU, and tip that closer to 50, is the big caveat.

Our 2017 team that went 16-13 in the ACC and finished with an RPI of 40 but got dinged for a 31-27 overall record (“not enough wins”) is a little bit of a cautionary tale, but more recent history says we’d likely be okay.

And hope there are no surprise auto-bids among the 31, reducing the at-large bids available for bubble teams (comparable to what happened in 20(18?).

Let's say we enter ACC tournament around top 45 - what would our performance need to be to get in? Or is that way too variable to make a reasonable guess

UCONN debacle is hurting us badly
Not really. We lost 2 out of 3 to them. Their RPI is 45 and they have 6 wins against teams with RPI between 1-25. They started out 0-7. We should not have been swept by WF or lost to Stetson at home

Too variable like you said, because any RPI impact is largely dependent on who you play. Based on where it would likely be, 14 ACC wins would send you in bubble out needing to do a lot, 15 would be bubble in and a single win would be helpful (necessary would depend on the exact RPI and opponent/bid stealing), and 16 would probably be enough already.

With all this talk about RPI, I think the remainder of the midweeks are MUST WIN. As in you lose one, you’re dropping 15 plus spots at a minimum.

With that being said last time we faced FIU (current midweek opponent), they smacked Lumpkin out of the game in the first with ease. Considering how well he pitched against Bethune/FAU and how bad FIU has been since, I believe they have a tell on his pitches.

Now this poses the question: Do you start Lumpkin despite the last performance or go with a full on bullpen game in a must win situation?

Interested to hear your guys’ thoughts 🙌

I would switch it up to give FIU hitters a different look and try to keep them off balanced. Going with Lumpkin would be a lazy approach which I have a feeling they will trot him back out there.

Start someone else or go bullpen game. They should be fairly fresh.

We had early leads in all 3 GT W's. Repeating that will be huge down the stretch, especially w several different looks from our pen and little AOD now waiting in the wings for the 8th and 9th when needed.
