Roster Breakdown: Offensive Line

I think our OL can be better this year than last, but it'll take some time as the unit needs reps and games played together. Perhaps not the Great Wall of Mirabal, but a line that can move and get into space a little (a lotta) better.

Jackson Cantwell is Joe Thomas after he became a left tackle, IMO. Sky is the absolute limit and he can be one of the best offensive tackles we've ever had by the time his three years is up here. Super prospect.

Can see him starting at RT, but sliding over to LT after '26.

Health is a big part of the interior OL. We'll see if they (mostly Ryan Rodriguez) can stay healthy. If he does...OH BOY.

Excellent writeup and breakdown. IIRC about a year ago maybe last spring or summer you had a Bank where you singled out Juan Minaya and said that he had the light come on and that he had taken a huge leap.

Has Minaya continued to improve or has he hit a wall since then? Having a kid like Juan Minaya breakthrough would be great for our OL depth.

Has there been any thoughts on giving SJ reps at DT? He is listed at 6'2 290 - probably 5'11 or touches 6'0...as for weight I could see him carrying 275-280

You have said multiple times that his athleticism and strength are real. I think it showed in games when he came in for short yardage/goal line. Why not try him on defense? We've seen several guys over the years excel at the college level that were considered undersized for DT/NT. Just a few that come to mind Kyle Williams, Nikita Whitlock, (Aaron Donald but he is obviously a unicorn), Poona Ford, and going back several years was Dan Klecko. These are guys that mostly succeeded in the NFL, but I am pretty sure there have been others like Whitlock that terrorized offenses in college, only for their size to catch up to them in the NFL.

Probably dependent on how coaches feel about the younger guys after spring practice.

Yep. I would be surprised if we don't add someone. If we don't add someone, it tells me one of the young guys have taken major strides (Minaya, campbell, wilkerson, ervin, congdon, et al), which is a very good thing!

No chance of this happening. We need C depth. DT Moton, Scott, Blount, Davis and Carter before you even get to a Stencil with the other TR FR. He might be able to play it, but they aren't going to consider it. He will see the field again on offense this season.

A lot of inexperience and a lot of young depth. I trust the coaches but I would have loved a starting tackle out of the portal.

Noticed Samson had his arm in a sling at the basketball game this week. He was hurt in the Florida game and must have played through injury for 3 months. I wonder what his absence this spring might mean for these younglings like Cantwell, Buchanan, SJ,
Saw the picture and by the look of the sling, could be a rotator cuff issue that he had minor surgery. Looks like the sling wraps around his torso which would indicate you want it to stay as close to the body as possible. Maybe he popped his shoulder in practice and it tore some of the rotator cuff but, not enough to require surgery which is why he's just in a sling.

That's my guess.
