Looking at the current number of scholarship players on the roster + commits arriving in the summer. Here are the numbers

QB (5)
RB (6)
WR (10)
TE (5)
OL (18)
DT (10)
DE (11)
LB (9)
CB (8)
S (7)
Specialists (3)

That's a total of 91 players that could possibly be here. We will need to trim 6 to get to the 85 scholarship limit and then also 1 for every transfer that we are going to take. Assuming that we go after at least 3 players (RB & 2x DB) we will have to lose 9.

QB - possibly 1 of the guys that ends up 3/4th string
WR - possibly Redding or Kirk if they're looking to find playing time
OL - need to drop 3 and get down to 15. Denis, Sagopolo and maybe someone like Tripp. Obviously this depends on how they perform in the spring. I really don't think that Cristobal should be on scholarship
DL - 21 I'd too much to carry into the season. Wasn't happy about them taking Daylan Russell on scholarship because of this (hopefully he makes me eat those words) Players like Gore & Campbell need to really prove that they deserve to be in the rotation or move on.
LB - I think 9 is a fine number
DB - Balom is the only one that I see here that we can afford to lose. 14 is not enough to go into the season. Isaiah Taylor as a walk on helps, but Thomas will be on the shelf for this year, so that's a wash.

It's going to be interesting who stays and goes and what the roster looks like when we open against the Gators. Overall talent is night and day from 3 years ago though

Strictly from a numbers perspective, it's interesting to see we have such high numbers in most of the rooms we'd like to see upgraded.
(5) QB high
(6) RB good
(10) WR high
(5) TE good
(18) OL high
(21) DL high
(9) LB good
(8) CB ok
(7) S high

I posted in a similar thread a few weeks ago. The first few are easy, after that it gets really hard really quickly. Guys like Redding and Sagapolou will have already graduated. But I really struggle after 5-6. And we're going to need to find another 5+ more. Do you really cut a kid like Tripp? Sure he's not made much noise. But he was a huge class ambassador last year and is only a second year (really only a second semester freshman!!!). Longterm he could turn into something. Feels un-Mario to me. I guess we'll see how it shakes out over the next two months.

That said, there are will be no primar donnas left on this team after this summer.

1 QB leaves- whoever finished 3rd
2 WR leave- Kirk and Redding
3-4 OL leave- Sagapolo, Denis, Zion and one more
2 DL- Campbell, Gore, Malik Bryant or Moten
1 LB leaves
2 DB's- Balom and Freeney

Total 11-12 players for 5 portal players to come in WR, CB, S, RB, DT

Its quite easy to trim our roster, but for some reason people get attached to trash players too easily I could have easily name 5-10 more guys who could leave and I would not flinch an inch.

I'm not certain how Sagopolo is a D1 OL caliber player.

In my humble opinion, I don’t think we are going to pick up very many portal players. It appears Mario might be willing to make an exception for a super-talented transfer, but I really haven’t heard much buzz about potential transfers lately. I look at position by position, and I just see a lot of development of players who were recruited here our of high school, and spring practices are missing a couple of key contributors for next season.

Therefore, I believe any potential transfer will have to be a high caliber player or Mario will pass.

FLO keeps hinting Kaleb Spencer could be "odd man out". Also mentioned before that he can't pick up the defense.

I'd argue Mario takes players out where they have seen that they can't hack it. Guys like Kirk, Redding and Spencer are three obvious candidates and Zion appears to have dug out a different career path, so he'd be the easy 4th. Sagapolu 5th. Personally wouldn't cut any of the young OL, as starting spots are wide the **** open next season.

Ray Ray may leave, as Trader and Carr have basically taken over Greentree. I can see a TE leaving based on Riley Williams, Arroyo and Lofton basically being the Top 3 and us attacking the commits hard. Jacurri leaves, I doubt they're cutting Emory, but he'll have to fight for a spot next season. DL will get a bit thinner, but in spots where there's no effect in the first place.

Overall, we'll be able to round out the roster (if the talent is available post-spring, not a given).

Ray Ray? No

Hard for teams to carry 5 QBs on scholarship now a days.

Kirk, Freeney, Denis, sag, Zion, Redding

Its been stated that Ray Ray doesn't do much and isn't in the race for a starting job.

If they communicate that to him, someone with his athletic ability may find a spot somewhere else.
