I've watched a bunch of 2017 game clips in the past month (Sept 2 can't get here soon enough). Not just highlights but condensed games and coaches cuts, so I'm waching most of the plays. I had forgotten how often Berrios saved Rosier's ***. And I don't mean just the huge, clutch plays ala FSU...those were awesome and he put the entire team on his back several times. But I mean just the ho-hum, mid-game-3rd-and-10-we-have-no-momentum first down catch he pulls out of his *** where Rosier's pass was behind him, or at his feet, or otherwise really off. BB really showed great hands and concentration all year, and I was surprised at how often he kept a drive alive or gave us momentum leading to points and did it by making unnecessarily difficult catches.

I'm not trying to bash Rosier, but we all know he's not the most accurate passer. Watching the games and noticing so many of these Berrios catches got me wondering what Rosier's completion percentage would have looked like, not to mention our record (especially with so many close wins), if BB hadn't played out of his mind all season.

I guess this begs the question: Who could step into that role this season? Who can be that steady, reliable guy Rosier looks to on 3rd down and who can make touch catches when the ball isn't well thrown?

Doesn't necessarily have to be a WR. Maybe a reliable TE emerges, or maybe someone like Deejay can be that guy lining up all over?

In somewhat this order. Richards, Thomas, Jordan, Dallas, Pope, Hightower, Mallory.

I’d caution against relying on two freshmen TEs to be the go to guys on 3rd down. I think they’ll be great sooner than later. But some of y’all are setting yourselves up to be disappointed.

Yeah I don't know that age has much to do with your ability to reel the ball in with your hands. And, no one would've thought Langham would be superman last year so my guess is as good as anyone else's.

You right. Age has nothing to do with just catching the ball. But just look up the production from the highest recruited TEs in the last 10 years. You’d be surprised how long it takes these guys to come around.

A healthy, focused Ahmonn Richards should be that guy.

Everyone should read the Bill Connelly preview with advanced stats. When he's been on the field, Richards has been one of the most efficient receivers in the country (and that's even including his awful Syracuse game).

Also need Thomas to develop better chemistry with Rosier. No way a DB should be able to cover him on 3rd down
 
Barring a sophomore slump, I think Thomas is gonna play the Berrios role this year. From the outside lookin' in, seemed like BB took JT under His wing last season. Also expect another productive season from Langham.
 
I think Jeff Thomas is going to be that guy when it comes to short downs(long downs too). Cager & AR82 will get majority of the looks when the distance is longer.
 
Really good post...this same thing has been running through my mind all summer. Berrios was unreal last year in the middle of the field. He caught EVERYTHING, and came up biggest in the biggest moments. There's going to be a drop-off from whoever takes that spot.

BB didn't play out of his mind, BB played **** BB. Cat was a baller.
