Ray Ray will be listed as 11 on the roster but wear 35 for games. How does Emory and Ray Ray both have the number#11
Unmistakable release lol
Incredible catch by George. Not a good pass by Williams, but great play nonetheless.I just hate how the ball travels when he throws, you know? The release is funky enough; still, the path and spiral itself always felt inadequate, bizarre, and lackluster.
I will never be quite sure how he completed that pass to Jacolby George.
My God. What a nightmare.Incredible catch by George. Not a good pass by Williams, but great play nonetheless.
Misplayed by both FSU's defensive back and safety, especially the safety. Not sure what happened. DB just didn't turn his head or he had an INT or easy pass break-up. Safety looked like he read it right away and had a perfect b-line to have an INT or decapitate George if he wanted. Instead, he chose neither. Like he gave up on the play or maybe thought the DB would make the INT since the ball was slightly underthrown.
Until that pass, Williams was 1-9 in the 2nd half for -3 yards. Shades of Kirby Freeman bad.
We were all burnt out and over the TVD experience back in 2023, we were willing to overlook all of Emory's physical limitations as a qb. Maybe overlook is the wrong word, but we were willing to ride with him, because he had heart and didn't have that negativity of TVD.My God. What a nightmare.
It has been a tad bit hilarious to watch some national pundits freak out over the fact that Emory transferred out as if we did wrong by him. I heard one call him ‘highly-rated,’ when speaking on how we abandoned the plan for him to takeover.
Somehow they’ve already forgotten that he and Jaden Rashada, Jarren Williams redux, were in the same class; and Williams was the lesser touted guy by far. Rashada himself was our third choice after Nico Iamleava and Dante Moore.
I knew Emory was bad, however, the possibility of him ever starting another game for us became near-zero after the 2nd half Iowa State fiasco.
It’s hard to describe how much fortified our program has become compared to where we were at in the Spring of 2024. We are light years away from that and have by no means peaked.
The internet just refreshed my memory.
We started the 2nd half off with a 3 & out; then ran the ball 9 times, Emory completed an 8 yard pass to ray-ray in between, on a ten play touchdown drive to make it 38-28. The play calls themselves spoke volumes about where he was at; however what followed was worse. He went 0-3 on a field goal drive where we got stopped at the 3 yard line; this drive included the fake punt that Lofton took for 28 yards. FG; 41-35 now.
Somehow, he was still getting balls batted down at 6’5. Back to back 3&out’s as by trying to figure out Williams’ preparedness to be a starter we just see his ineptitude. On the final drive, down 41-42 w/ 55 seconds to go, Emory went 3 for 8, w/ an INT. 5 for 14 w/ 26 yards on the day; one of the completions was a -2 yards play caught by Jordan Lyle on 3rd down.
Even with all this being said, I do believe he could succeed at ECU; by that I mean be a game manager and win 7-8 games. They brought in a kid from Wake Forest to compete with him so he is by no means secure as a starter. Ray-Ray will likely have a 25-40 receptions, 300-500 yards type season no matter what. Their HC seems high on him despite his redzone fumble in their scrimmage.
No, I think overlook is the right word. Your post is on the money. We were all burnt out and over the TVD experience back in 2023, we were willing to overlook all of Emory's physical limitations as a qb. Maybe overlook is the wrong word, but we were willing to ride with him, because he had heart and didn't have that negativity of TVD.
Little did we know we would get Cam in 2024, and we quickly forgot about Emory. After that Pop Tarts Bowl fiasco, the writing was pretty much on the wall for Emory. We saw what good qb play was like that season and we weren't going back to mediocrity.
I hope Emory and Ray-Ray do well, but my expectations from them at ECU are quite a bit lower than most. I don't think either of those two are starters for P4 schools or any FBS schools for that matter.
did emory throw it to him?
Spot on man, spot on. I was never on the Emory train that much, but I did feel that an improved roster could help compensate for Emory's limitations as a qb. Deep down, I know we were doomed for the 2025 season if we didn't land another proven qb in the portal, even with upgrades everywhere else to the roster. So happy when we got Beck. Sure, he's no Cam (nobody else was/is either) but Beck was pretty good. No, I think overlook is the right word. Your post is on the money.
The FSU and Clemson games were dreadful; however, his toughness & the lucky few plays are what people remembered as time went on.
Folks figured with the improvements to the roster outside of QB that they could lift Emory up if his intangibles compensate for those physical limitations. Him going 11 for 12 against Ball State, Reese being trash, Judd’s glaring insufficiencies compared to the dream scenarios of Jake Garcia/Jacurri — let people believe he could takeover in ‘25 as the year went along.
Personally, i wanted Beck, Mendoza, or Nickel to start. Before Beck I thought Mendoza would be a two-year solution for us — most definitely did not expect him to do anything close to what he did although i knew he was a winning quarterback.
I could see Emory not starting at ECU in 2026; but he has two years of eligibility left. If they go with the dude from Wake Forest/TT in ‘26, i could see them going with him in 2027. He is well below-average but the non-p4 is full of guys like that. If he never starts I wouldn’t blink twice tho.
Ray-Ray can play. He is also going to be quicker than a lot of the dbs he goes against; he had a 4.1/4.2 shuttle. We’ll see how that goes though.
