I've been pleased with the offense, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
Last year with Cam Ward was special, so I don't expect us to approach that, but there's meat on the bone.
2024
Total offense: 536.2 (1st)
Scoring offense: 42.9 ppg (1st)
3rd down conversion %: 55.41% (1st)
Yards/play: 7.4 (1st)
Yards/pass: 9.2 (6th)
Yards/rush: 5.6 (5th)
2025
Total offense: 395.5 ypg (54th)
Scoring offense: 32.5 ppg (36th)
3rd down conversion %: 45.45% (31st)
Yards/play: 5.7 (49th)
Yards/pass: 8.3 (33rd)
Yards/rush: 3.9 (80th)
I think our numbers will improve as we play softer defenses and other teams get into their conference schedules. When Beck has been asked to throw the ball, he's been very efficient for the most part. I'd like to see more passing to set up the run, which we did a lot last year. We don't play too many salty defenses down the stretch, and hopefully we won't have more rain games that mire down the passing game.
It will be interesting to see how teams attack us. Notre Dame and Florida mainly stayed in two-deep shells, and USF and Florida State keyed on the run more with a lot of single-high safety and aggressive quarters, respectively.
We've shown that we can handle both styles. I think the offense will continue to improve as time goes on. Let's not forget that Carson Beck really couldn't even throw until summer. Malachi Toney is still a true freshman. Trader and Lofton are just now getting fully healthy and reacclimated; they were dominant in the spring.
Imagine how the FSU game would've looked if Marion didn't move forward before the snap.
Still have some kinks to iron out, but I like where we are at this juncture of the season.
