RookieWatch TM sponsored by Machado, Batista & Castro PLLC, a leading human rights law firm in South Florida, presents this week's 10 observations following our staff's rewatch of the Miami v USF game:
1. Bissainthe had a very rough first half, taking the wrong run fits, overpursuing and failing to wrap up. Out staff concluded that it was his worse game of the season.
2. Cam Ward had a rough start. USF should have had a pick six on the first pass of the game. He underthrew Chris Johnson Jr., who had was beyond his defender by almost a medieval rod. He missed Restrepo on the wheel route in the first half and on a crossing pattern in the second half. .
3. Damien Martinez got tripped up too many times. It surprised our team of rookie watchers.
4. Cam Ward fumbled or almost fumbled on his first scramble of the game. It reminded our staff of last year's fumbles woes.
5. Isiah Horton came back to the ball on the TD catch to make sure the defender couldn't defend the ball. He had enough separation anyways, but you can see Coach Beard's coaching come through in that instance. He did, however, in the second half, drop a pass that hit him in his hands on the play that was called a defensive hold. Otherwise had an elite game.
6. Out staff likes Elijah Alston and Tyler Baron standing up at the line of scrimmage. The versatile 3 3 5 formation was fatal to USF's offensive aspirations.
7. Miami had two penalties called back on nice kickoff returns by Chris Johnson Jr. and Jordan Lyle. The staff believes that this bull**** needs to be cleaned up by next week.
8. Our sources confirm that Jason Taylor implored Mario to call the last timeout of the first half in order to go volcano against Ahmad Moten Sr., which was warranted. Bain stepped in to assuage the situation and on the following play Miami's defense stopped an option play on third down and USF had to kick a field goal. Great use of the timeout Mario.
9. We view favorably Miami's ability to score TDs from just a few yards out (Martinez had 3), considering the OL's historic inability to punch it in near the endzone in year's past.
10. Mish Powell saved a TD at the end of the first half on the excellent third down screen by USF that went for 50 yards. He saved Miami 4 points and much more importantly killed the momentum from the big play and what would have been a TD at the end of the first half. His pick also killed their momentum in the second half. Within our staff, we call him Mish "No-Memtum" Powell (TM).
10(a). Two words: Xavier Restrepo
10(b). Miles Mooyoung's interception to essentially end the game was thrilling. He did, however, retrieve from the crowd and then wore a Manny Diaz authored Turnover Chain, until someone on the team ripped it from his neck and inserted it into his colon, an event which we view very favorably. We don't suffer no bull**** here
