honestly, it sounded like everyone was set on Butch and Richt just blew them away. said he was great with x's and o's and he was hungry. listen to the first hour of the show. Romberg makes it clear what happened.
 
I can't believe he had a formal interview. What are you going to ask mark richt? . Bama blew it years back. Bowden was ready to go but they said he had to interview. He laughed in their face. The fact is if the final two candidates are richt and butch 100 out of 100 ads pick richt. That isn't too say richt is better but he has more cache. Yes butch did great things and the fans know this, but because he left before winning it is not as appreciated by everyone else

Different case here. Richt wasn't sure if he wanted to take a year off as apparently family was wanting or get into another pressure cooker.

I think Blake and the BOT had to pitch the opportunity here, right now, as one those "once in a lifetime" type deals.

Oh I get that they talked, but I don't get the he knocked it out of the park. Do you not know his resume, his reputation. What are going to ask him other than do you want the job and have the desire to coach? Yes. Great let's talk contract.

Maybe I'm wrong. Just seems silly to be asking him his philosophy on coaching and how he views education in the student athletes life etc.

Dude, an interview goes both ways. We ask what he needs. He tells us what he wants. Both parties reach common agreement. Sounds like some of the things they talked about were staff salaries, other commitments. These things need to be worked out face to face. Plus, if I'm Mark I want to meet my new boss and have some pretty candid discussions. Mark went through several ADs at Georgia. What I'm reading is a lot of Georgia alums are not too happy about Mark being escorted out the door. If this Kirby Smart experience doesn't work then I'm sure Georgia will be looking for a new AD.

I like how vinny (the ultimate former hurricane outsider) who I happen to have nothing against (except his apparent color blindness in 1987) was one of the key members of the search committee. further and more interesting is that a former teammate of Vinnie's actually got the job. such irony.

Rumor was Gundy flew in with Jimmy to interview... came from Ferman so who knows.

But Ferman had a better source this time around. He was on point the whole time for the most part
 
My guess is that it was Butch til Richt showed interest. Then, to not make it a Richt vs. Butch thing, James floated that Schiano was number two to make the choice of Richt over Schiano much easier to take for the Butch lovers than just him over Butch.
