Romberg-James Interview

Ok, honestly you have a good point with this post and that makes sense. What other reason would James have not to hire Highsmith? I can understand within the confines of the contract Diaz agreed upon him reporting to a middle man was not a part of the agreement.

So you two guys are going to agree that a first-time head coach had the leverage and foresight to draft a contract that prevents an as-yet-uncreated position from ever being created? And that such a contract would hold up and prevent UM from ever reorganizing its Athletic Department?

Now I've seen it all. Suuuuure, "what other reason" would Beta Blake have to not hire Alpha Alonzo? SURELY it must be a little-known codicil in Manny's contract.

Yeah, that's the ticket...

I personally wouldn't have asked a single question about the Highsmith stuff. I'd focus it all on Blake.

I'd bring up the school's dismal record since he took over. Why shouldn't he be held accountable?

I'd ask him to again explain why he did not conduct a search when Richt retired?

I'd ask him if he realizes that Mannys defense is 1-2 and given up 83 points in Bowl games at Miami. This is the guy you thought was the best option ?

I'd ask him what qualities he looks for in a Head Coach?

I'd ask him is there a vetting process for assistant coaches ?

I'd ask him why this season turned into a rebuild when part of your rationale for hiring Manny was continuity?

I'd finally ask him what he considers a successful season at UM?

Sometimes these guys end up telling on themselves.

Man I would have loved to hear him try to spin those. He would have been shook. Im sure he probably didn’t go into the interview blind though, or he wouldn’t have done the interview in the first place. Just some PR bull**** to make it appear like he is trying to fix the gigantic dumpster fire he birthed

He would have developed a bad connection about 2 questions into that inquisition. These clowns aren’t going to sit for a scathing deposition on a podcast that 27 dudes are listening to in their mom’s bed while wearing dingy greying T-shirts that used to be white with unfathomable stains.

LOL at anyone expecting Rimberg to conduct a meaningful interview. The guy’s not exactly Mike Wallace. All he does is bloviate about the glory days and **** on players for not being as good as the 2001 team.

yeah, it's tiresome. Does he talked about how Tim Anderson and co pushed his **** in all game long during the fiesta bowl?

+3 for using the word codicil.

I’m guessing he never gets around to Ohio Taint’s DL defenistrating him and his supposedly flawless OL mates for 4 quarters.

Manny‘s contract almost certainly has a report directly to the AD clause in it. Can’t likely make a new position work unless it reports to Manny, without Manny’s consent.
I'm sure there are workarounds. For example, name the new position "Athletic Director for Football Operations" and notify Manny of the change. Similar to the servicer of a loan changing.

More likely it can't happen without Blake's consent.

I don’t blame manny for taking this job. The guy tired
To do it the right way by going to temple but his dream job opened up. I’m not sure he’s sabotaging lonzo. It could be Blake deflecting blame. Manny didn’t keep golden too long, manny didn’t hire richt and manny
An AD surviving three fuq ups from the most prestigious sport. Unbelievable....only means we don't give a fuq.

Again Romberg should have pressed BJ on the structure of the new role. Why hire an OC before a chief of staff if the COS role? That should have been a core discussion topic, instead Romberg tried to make it an Ellen interview.

Missed opportunity IMO.
Chief of Staff is just a BS support position that has no authority. Stroud was Chief of Staff until Simpson left (as BJ said) so that should give an idea of the importance of the position. Not something that will effect the OC search at all.

And, in all honesty, the CoS position for Stroud was just a parking spot for him, as we knew Simpson was looking at other jobs. Unlike F$U, we don't hire 2 guys for the same job.

Oh I know. I'm almost positive the questions asked were pre-arranged or screened.

I personally have no ill-will towards Manny. He’s got no business being our coach but thats not his fault.

He can improve, sure. Can’t be much worse. Just never envisioned Miami being a “learn on the job” place but we definitely are

My ill will towards Manny is the bull chit he was talking, blaming players which absolved him from any responsibilities, and the cheap shots he took at his former employer who resurrected his rep from being dog chit to decent, to the point he was considered for a HC gig. He conned his way to this job, and I can't knock the hustle, but I will knock the results and how the results came about.

I would also like to point out that given the issues with his cell reception, pretty sure this ***** is hiding out in a bunker somewhere.

He went on an extensive cell phone search and instantly picked Consumer Cellular. It looked good originally, but now is causing him headaches.

Reports suggest Verizon was interested

If he doesn’t that’s pretty disheartening since I wake up screaming about it annually - while wondering why a certain Frosh RB wasn’t already incarcerated.

If manny’s contract says report to AD or it’s ‘good reason,’ then there aren’t work-arounds without him having the right to quit and still get paid. Lawyers who draft these contracts are good enough that changing a name of a role isn’t going to change the deal.

No it doesn't. James would get the credit for hiring Highsmith—so that would be a resume win for him. Not to mention, he's in the BoT's good graced as a fundraiser and glad-handler.

Some of y'all really don't get that an athletic director's job is way more than just football head coaching hires. By many other accounts, James is doing a fine job—regarding an AD's title—and is well-liked by UM's top brass.

There's literally no way he wouldn't hire Highsmith because that type of football success would ultimately get hire fired. Completely non-sensical.
Lol. James is doing a very poor job. An AD’s job is to win championships and sell tickets. He is negligent at both. But oh he is a good beggar because he begs for money when he doesn’t meet quotas. his teams suck and we spend more money than any college in America buying out contracts.
