Smith was ahead of Dean most of the year at CB from what I could tell, particularly against Syracuse.

When Bandy left the Clemson game it was Smith who replaced him, right?

Smith was ahead at nickel.... he never got in at corner back.

Fair enough.

But if they liked Smith ahead of Dean as the nickel, something tells me Smith might get a shot at one of the starting CB spots now that young is done.

I know that to you they're both in the running for best player ever since they play for Miami, but that second CB spot is wide open if you ask me. A bunch of guys will get a look there, maybe even Redwine.

S:

Johnson
Redwine
Carter
Knowles
Finley
Hall

Let's let Hall practice a couple times before formally anointing him the starter.

I wouldn't plant Hall as a starter either, but people are immensely excited about him. Also, Finley has never logged any serious minutes at the position, and we all wish we could say the same about Knowles.

Hall is ready, it's gone be hard to keep that type of talent off the field.

Smith played corner because we had terrible depth....

This is still a bit of a problem with there being some question about what position Frierson and Blades will play. I expect Frierson to begin at CB but that may not mean he's already better than Smith.

Derrick Smith is a safety.... Depth Chart wise it makes sense to move Jaquan to the same side as Redwine. I would try out this line up in the spring to see if Carter and Smith are ready....

FS - Jaquan Johnson / Sheldrick Redwine or Gurvan Hall / Robert Knowles

SS - Amari Carter or Derrick Smith / Romeo Finley

CB - Jackson / Dean / Frierson

CB - Dean or Bandy / Ivey

NB - Bandy / Smith or Hall

We could only hope. I’m sure Robert is a good kid but it was painful at times last year. He has a role as a special teamer and should contribute there

I think Gurvan starts at Free, with Jaquan at strong.
