Naw he favored Florida during his sophomore year.

Just read the canesport article on the team's times. Wow, we have a really slow defense, especially the front 7. Yikes.

some kids will lose weight in camp so hopefully they speed up a little.

Not in this regime. We have a DL that averages a HAND TIMED 4.9-5.0 across the board - that is brutal. Wait until we go into shell mode and we have 3 DTs rushing the passer. The LBs are pedestrian (speed) and we have several DBs that are in the HAND TIMED 4.6-4.7 range. Those are brutal times.

Watt and Terrell Suggs ran 4.84 at the combine. Elvis Dumervil and JPP both did 4.78. 40 times are largely useless for defensive linemen. Long speed is overrated. It's about the explosion/get-off and technique. We've had INCREDIBLE athletes along the defensive line in the past decade but we've been SEVERELY lacking in the name of technique. Under Shannon the D-line had it's best year in 2010 when they finally hired an actual defensive line teacher in Petri.

Athleticism will never be the issue at Miami...EVER. After we lose out on 100 targets, we could find 50 other guys who would lap the college football world when it comes to running and cutting and jumping. Winning at Miami will forever boil down to having a dude that won't F up behind center and coaches who will instruct the world class athletes.

Watt ran an electronic 4.8 at nearly 6'6" 300lbs. Just sayin.

Regardless, I don't disagree with your point. I know what you're getting at. However, I'm not sure that I agree about us not having trouble fielding superior athletes. When I look at Miami's team I don't see a distinct athletic advantage anymore. I see those kids at other schools like Louisville more than I see them here. The way their defense ran around against us looked just like an old Miami defense. Size was thrown out of the window and the emphasis was on speed.

Our staff doesn't always put a premium on speed and explosiveness. They're obsessed with size and technique. Some of the most explosive "athletes" are leaving South Florida and going to other schools because Miami isn't recruiting them due to a slight lack in size. (i.e. James Burgess, Skai Moore, Juwan Dowels, Luther Maddy, Isaih McKenzie, etc)

Speed is not THE issue but it certainly is an issue with this team. It's been a consistent theme with this team in Al's tenure. I'm not saying that the DL has to be burners (and I understand the short speed vs long speed issue) but when you combine the reported HAND TIMES with the lack of explosion in film, it tells you one thing - we are slow.

And LOL at making the comparison to Watt and Elvis. Those dudes may lack 4.6 times but they were insanely productive in college. Our guys seem to lack speed AND productivity - deadly combo.

Im very high on Sheldrick Redwine. Kid can play.

I was ****ed that the jersey boys took so long to offer him.

Redwine timed faster then i thought he would..

Surprised the **** out of me he never did that **** at killian, that playoff game still scares me though

Yra I just cant see him making it here at corner...MOve him to safety and be done with it

Vern I agree and disagree with you sometimes.

This one I agree with. I watched Redwine a lot at Killian, I always said he would be a better safety than corner with the "right" coaching. I stressed that a lot when we finally went after him.

They were productive because they were skilled. They were skilled because they were instructed.

I clearly stated that instruction was a central theme in our defensive line's underperformance.

He's been on campus like 5 minutes! Give him some time to get going. Some players develop at different speeds. This guy is going to be good.

so funny you guys are putting this kid down because of a 40 time but were loving him up this past spring when cristobal wanted this kid to prep with hopes of him going to alabama. give these kid at least a full season in the training program before burying him

Nobody wants to play for Paul Williams.

Don;t give me Jaquan Johnson....kid was born a Cane. He would be a Cane if the entire staff was composed of former and current Klan members.

Kids like Jaq, Berrios, Kaaya, Duke.... they would be Canes if Hitler or Pol Pot was the coach. They would have played for me and I don't know the first thing about head coaching.

It's all the other top-shelf recruits that AG has struck out on that have left us in this dire situation. The coming season will bear out just how far our talent level has fallen across the board.

From what point? Last year's team was probably the most talented group in 6 years. Outside of Randy's honeymoon class, the last two staphs have been abysmal in recruiting non-homer, top shelf recruits. Not sure how much further we could fall from where Randy left us. Golden is just maintaining the mediocrity through similar failures in recruiting.

While miami haven't landed all of the players in Florida which is impossible we still have got tons of good payers on the team. List speaks for itself. Miami still has a high talent level...

And that is why the program can never be completely dead. Golden hasn't recruited well and there is still a bunch of high end talent on this team.

FSU and Clemson are only 2 team on our schedule with better or equal talent.

Our starters are talented. Our depth is where the drop off comes and that's why we ain't been a top program. Because no one wants to ride the bench here right now. We used to have starter quality 2nd and even 3 strings which was why we dominated. That takes time.

But. AG should have blown up his staff 2 yrs ago and certainly last yr... So He used up his patience on the front end

No, there isn't. There are a few players that are very good. But, this team is devoid of any elite players and it lacks legitimate depth.

As far as being a National championship contender yes I agree. As far as being more talented then almost all of the teams we play then I don't agree. We have the most talent in the Coastal. Also players look 10x worse under this staff then they would look normally so that needs to be factored in. A good coach would have won 10 games last season and enough talent to do it again this season.
