He doesn't want the job.
This guy would kill it Down here!!! He'd always have a PRO job so I doubt he would be interested.

Butch was amazing while he was here but I fear everyone here is going thru that thing that happens when you go back to an old girlfriend...and we all know how that works out.
I mean...it's better than jerkin around with Golden...but we can do so much better.
I think the other concern is that we as a fanbase don't really have faith in our BOT and AD to be smart or ballsy enough to actually identify or land that "better than Butch" option. I know it's out there though. So then we end up falling back into the "safe" and "affordable" option of Butch Davis. I think ultimately this makes us look desperate and sad and really with no guarantee of his past success.
Like I said...I'll take it if it happens and be cool with it....but still......
The issue you run into with any of these names is that they would see Miami as a step to something else. The best programs have continuity with their coaches - they don't want to be anywhere else. They don't jump at the first offer in the pros, like Butch did. Nick Saban and Les Miles come to mind. You need someone that sees Miami as a destination job, not an interim step. Even Texas and Florida had trouble getting who they wanted, why would Miami be any different? Especially with our "budget constraints"
It is surely more interesting than Golden.

We have done very well with "stepping stone" coaches. Howard, JJ, Dennis, Butch. Measure that against the "destination" lifers: Larry, Randy and Al. Would you really have wanted St Bobby for his 30 + years of ah suchs, dang that Miami, and a mere 2 NCs in 3 decades? Staying on top is very hard. Very few Bears out there. I want a coach who wants to go to the NFL. History shows that you win at Miami you can do that. We want coach who want to win and get gone. Recruiting continuity is much more important. If Dennis had left players like Howard, JJ and Butch did, we could have gotten another NC under Butch while he built the greatest ever.
This would be a total flop of a hire. Nothing against Chud, he's obviously a very accomplished coach, and he holds a special esteem amongst Canes fans for his contributions to the team. But hiring Chud doesn't excite anyone except those of us who have been Canes fans for years and years and know the complete history of the program. He offers zero in the way of recruiting boost or presence in South Florida. Kids have no idea who this guy is.
To an extend, the same holds true for Butch. I'm not saying he doesn't have a successful formula, but the man is like 65 years old and has been out of the game for almost 5 years. We all romanticize bringing him back to replicate his past success, but the fact of the matter is times have changed, recruiting has changed - there is no bullet-proof guarantee that Butch can turn it around quickly, and he's an old man.
The guy is Mario Cristobal. You want to sit back and watch this thing takeoff, hire that guy and let him off the leash.
