Rivalry week

I have to admit, I'm always a little bit jealous during rivalry week.

Seeing as how Florida/FSU have each other, should Miami try and establish an annual rivalry week opponent to get some extra hype and attention for the last weekend of regular season college football?

I don't think anybody in the ACC is worthy of that title. Maybe VT? Pitt? An old Big East opponent?

But what about outside of the conference?

Lately, ND keeps coming to mind. I think it would be great for both of us if we had a built in rivalry at the end of the year every year. Would probably rank 3rd in the country behind OSU/Michigan and Bama/Auburn and in some years be the top rivalry game (this year it would be the 1st or 2nd most watched game).

Admittedly, with our current conundrum with ND, this probably isn't a good time for that consideration. But I can't really think of another good fit.

If we joined the B1G at some point, then I could see it being a Penn State type team.

Obviously it has to be a team that doesn't have a natural built in rival and it would have to feel somewhat natural, not just manufactured.

Who else could it be?

I like the idea of ND. Maybe we would actually get credit for beating them every year if it was at the end of the season
It feels like ND could be the type of team that even if we're headed towards a meaningless postseason, our team could still get hype/focus on ruining ND's season.

This weekend would be a perfect example of it if we didn't have legitimate postseason hopes. We'd only be playing to ruin ND's postseason and it would be something the fans and players could still get excited about.

Just like UF could ruin FSU's bowl chances and Auburn could knock Bama out of the playoffs this weekend.

The only downfall I can think of is that we wouldn't have one last ACC game to help our ACCCG chances.

It's Notre Dame, that's the answer.

We're already playing them like 6 times over the next 11 years, so it's not like it would be difficult to set up. We just need to move the game to the end of the season. Start next year. I think it would benefit Notre Dame too.

Penn State could also work
Maybe if we went to the B1G. Until then, they aren’t adding us to the schedule.

No one in the SEC or B1G will.

Our non-conference slate is going to be ND / a Big 12 team on top of a bunch of cupcakes every year for the foreseeable future. We need to get out of this ******* conference.

Exactly what I was thinking reading replies

NO CHANCE they would want to play Miami annually - and at end of season

They want cupcakes
They signed a 12 year agreement with Clemson.

When does the ACC scheduling agreement end with ND?

I think with the ACC, B1G, SEC and B12 all going to 9 conference games, I think ND sees the writing on the wall and knows it's going to keep getting harder for them to get quality opponents.

They're going to be desperate for P4 teams when the ACC agreement ends.

I guess the next question is, would the ACC allow it? Because even though it would be a ratings blockbuster, every other year the game would be on NBC.

Ok that’s one game
They are likely losing usc from what I read
The rest of their schedule is littered w garbage

I don’t think Nd would risk playing Miami annually AND at end of season

Maybe I’m wrong but they prob would rather have Air Force or make their rivalry game Purdont

I hear what you're saying but we may have some leverage with them since they're going to need to legit P4 teams. The ACC, B1G , and SEC are all going to 9 conference games. ND can't just fill their schedule with P4 bottom dwellers and G5 teams. They're going to need a few marquee games a year.

Purdue has Indiana.

By the way I just realized, with Clemson's 12 year agreement with ND and annual SC game, 11 of their 12 games are now filled every year.

Well.. it would be nice to play a rival every year. But fwiw, everybody plays us like we're their rival anyway.

Fair point. Solid thread idea.

ND would be high end. Could also live with Pitt from both the Big East and ACC days, but they should have one back with PSU or WVU. I'd say Louisville due to the Schnelly Trophy, but they have UK. Some solid potential for a yearly play.
