RIP Raul Malo

For the Hurricanes fans from the 1980s and 1990s, you likely remember the Miami band The Mavericks. Miami native Raul Malo (lead singer, guitarist, songwriter) founded the band in 1989 and they played in South Florida clubs and bars for a few years before putting out their first album on a small Miami-based label.

Raul Malo passed away yesterday. Cancer.

knew raul also with his original bandmates from columbus tommy and joe from the tomboys. probably know you also.

Yep.

Same class as Tommy and Joe. Raul was a year younger. They were the quintessential high school rock band (originally The Boys before being forced to change their name to The Tomboys). Great parties.

Was looking forward to seeing The Mavericks when they were billed to open up for Dwight Yoakam on his current tour. Such a sad day today.
