I can fondly remember going to eat at Mira’s pizza in Key West, right across from the baseball parks. Played baseball with Mario Mira Jr. and his dad Mario Sr. was one of my coaches. Great family and huge loss for Canes family.

Past away at age 83. Miami's first National Championship in '83. Toney wore his number this year with a patch on his jersey in his honor. Mira Sr last played for the Canes in '63 and 63 years later could win the national championship. Go Canes!

Before my time but I remember the old-timers like Luther Evans and Sonny Hirsch gushing about him on the old soFla radio stations as well as Edwin Pope writing about him as well. From what I heard he was a very exciting ball-player, very charismatic, in a city, more like a town where we had no NFL, NBA, NHL and only MLB during spring training. It was the dogs, ponies, Jai-Alai, HS sports and UM. It was a different era and he was one of our few homegrown stars. There was an old-timer on the old Grassy board by the name of Ed Koch who went by the name of TheMatador. I met him in person a couple of times back in the 1990s and he shared quite a few stories back in the day. I don't know if he's still around but I remembered when I heard of Mira's passing. Salute to both.
