RIP Coach Christ Vagotis

Wow. I had the pleasure of taking Coach fishing in the Keys a few times. Really nice guy. Sad news.
 
I'm guessing here but he coach in the late 70's at Killian not sure , I played 1974-75 before career ending injury at Southwest High and graduated 76 Chris may have been there during my time?

I saw this sad news late last night.

Coached that undersized bunch of rejects (most likely not many other teams wanted them) to a NC winning season in '83. We also had some very good teams in the years leading up to '83. Protecting our QBs was paramount. I think we only have up 14 sacks in '83. This was key to winning the national championship. I'm trying to remember the names of that starting five:

Ian Sinclair (center from Canada)
Alvin Ward (guard from Chicago)
Juan Comeindeiro (guard from Miami?)

Having trouble with the two tackles. I can picture one guy, his father or grandfather wasxa physician to the Kennedy's.

Don't know much about Vagotis' high school career, but he was a big part of the growth of the program's success

EDIT: The two OTs on the '83 team were Paul Bertucelli and David Heffernan.

I believe he played for Bama in the early '60's so he came out of the Bear Bryant culture which certainly knew all about winning.

Our early '80's guys were winners and they reflected coaches like Vagotis.
