Riley possibility to USC

Coaching in the SEC is a dead end job unless you’re at a program with low expectations.

As long as Bama & UGA are outspending the world & hoarding all the elite recruits, it’s a waste of time if you’re a big time coach to go the SEC, because if you don’t have immediate a success you’ll be on the hot seat because people have unrealistic expectations without factoring in that Bama & UGA have an extremely unfair advantage over every other program.

If you’re going to the 2nd tier jobs like Kentucky, Mizzou, Arkansas, the Mississippi’s, South Carolina, Tennessee etc, then yeah it can be a good job because the expectations aren’t as high & out of wack, there’s more perspective & patience, but going to the more high end programs in the SEC is a beautiful trap...

You’ll make a lot of money & have access to great recruits, but if you don’t win quick you’ll be fired.

Oklahoma going to the SEC will just cause more traffic jam of teams dying in the War of attrition behind Bama & UGA.

The same thing that happened to TAMU when they went to the SEC is what will happen to Oklahoma & what will happen to Texas is what happened to Arkansas & Mizzou, it’s a marathon race to the middle/bottom of the conference, all for the illusion of a few more million dollars in conference pay out from TV deals.

They’re going to be paid really well to be sacrificial lambs for the top of the conference & keep the SEC propaganda campaign rolling. That’s what these teams vying to be in the SEC don’t realize, they want them in the conference to make Bama & UGA look good, not to actually give them a chance to rise above them.
Agree totally. I don't understand these fan bases who want in that conference so bad. It's already full of fan groups that throw fits if they're not on top. Texas and Oklahoma? Well good luck satisfying the boosters now. At least in the NFL, fans expect you to lose and understand why that's so, but it hasn't hit the SEC yet. It's going to be the conference of misery and dissatisfaction for most of them.

Riley isn't "scared" of the SEC any more than any intelligent person is "scared" to jump into a mud pit with pigs. He made a very smart quality of life decision. 4 years from now 6-5 Oklahoma can look at 11-1 playoff bound USC and comfort themselves on how scared he is.

Not as ****** as living in Oxford, Mississippi or Eugene, Oregon.

OK, the last one is debatable.

I'll defend Eugene. It's a nice college town and it's as beautiful a setting as you can imagine. Forests, rivers, mountains, waterfalls all around. 1.5 hrs to the Oregon coast where you can drop crab pots off a pier and drink a few beers. Never been to Oxford though so I can't compare it to there.

Who in their right mind would want to deal with Nick Saban and Bama every year lmao

Then you have Georgia, Florida, and LSU

Yea, seems better than Norman.

He won't be there much longer is my guess.

Still, it's a conference full of programs dedicated to winning and spending big bucks to do it.

I really don't get why someone wants to jump in that mosh pit. Money, sure, but at what cost? Reputation (you're going to have down years) and that monetary gain will be eaten up by the cost of competing. I would love to hear the rationale.

This is what happens when you accept the inevitable and move on from your HC earlier in the season. Miami is being left behind because they are incapable of learning from 2 decades of mistakes. USC, a small private school went out and just took a coach. What are you gonna do Frenk?
