Ricky DeBerry Pre UM Visit 247 Update

Larry Scott deserves a raise.

I can't believe people suggested Golden f*cked up that hire by not hiring a high school coach. Lulz.

He deserves a raise because in addition to the extremely underrated recruiting benefits he's brought, he's also developed the talent he's been given for a position that needed a jolt. He's shown that he can get the Tampa studs to come down here and he's developed guys like Walford into quality players. Total package as a position coach.

Same with Hurly Brown, everybody went ape **** when we didn't bring in Yearby and Cook's HS coach to be our RB coach, and now Hurly is one of our best recruiters on staff.

Yes we MIGHT have landed Cook and Philips to go along with Yearby, but maybe we don't.

Remember, Cook's family has been trying to make money off his athletic ability since pop warner(rumors yes, but they have legs) and Miami definitely isn't buying recruits, especially with the NCAA microscope(remember, kid committed to 3 different schools known for buying recruits and has even posted pics of himself flashing cash in F$U gear). It also seems as though Cook never really wanted to be in the same backfield as Yearby anymore after being his back up for years.

Phillips supposedly has to leave Miami b/c of gang related stuff with his family(IMO Phillips is in no danger, but it gives him an excuse to give the locals that give him a hard time for following his boy and most likely getting paid by F$U).

So even if we did hire Locket, we may have only ended up with just Yearby and not had nearly as good of a recruiter in Hurly Brown.

Many posters are going to just run over this post but this cant be said enough. The board was about to be shut down when Lockette didnt get the job and Scott did. Funny you mention that we probably wouldnt have gotten Cook anyway. Lol. I agree 100%. Buddy just never seemed like he wanted to be here. Scott and Hurlie have been animals for us. They might save Als job. Great Hires and Al might be 4 for 4 because Baez and Ice will help alot too.

Has he said when he wants to make his decision? I haven't seen (or just passed right over it). Anyone know if he's going to wait it out, or make it after his visits?

Ricky DeBerry @TheFranchize__: Might commit in December instead of January

Has 3 more visits to make and has already made 25 visits. After his next three he will narrow it down. According to him miami will be near the top of the list. Dad is a huge canes fan.

Richmond (VA) St. Christopher's High School 4-star LB/DE Ricky DeBerry took an unofficial visit to Miami the last two days and says "the visit went real well. This past weekend was one of my best visits I've ever had. Miami has a great campus. Everyone is so real and genuine, they don't try to tell you any false information, just tell you are you ready to work, if you're a Miami guy we'd love to have you. They keep everything so real, don't try to go to South Beach and show you all the females, just show you what they have. They show you the national brand, the U."

DeBerry says he's already visited 25 other programs, and he has upcoming visits planned to UCLA, Arizona State and Texas A&M. He currently has a top 20 that includes Miami but will whittle things down further after those three trips.

He says while on UM's campus that he met with coach Larry Scott but that the rest of the football coaching staff was away on vacation.

"Coach Scott, he's been my recruiter," DeBerry said. "Me and him have a great relationship."

DeBerry also met with the strength coach, Andreu Swasey.

"He has been there for 17 years, knows what he's doing," DeBerry said. "He said Miami's a great place to be, you just have to get used to the heat."

He also met with DT Michael Wyche, who grew up in Virginia.

"It was my first time meeting him, he loves Miami," DeBerry said. "He says the coaches keep it real with you all the time."

DeBerry plans to announce a final decision "probably in December, no later than January."

UM would use him as a linebacker who could line up at end in rushing situations.

"That's what I want to do, play both," DeBerry said.

A factor in UM's favor: His father is a Cane fan.

"He's always been a Hurricane fan," DeBerry said. "He grew up in Virginia but he always wanted to play for Miami [dad played Division II football]."

So just what kind of chance do the Canes have with DeBerry?

"It's definitely not a longshot," DeBerry said. "I really, really like Miami. I can see them being in my top down the road, I just have to take these final visits.

"Miami's in contention for that final cut."

AG fcked up by keeping his buddy

I'm saying it again. He will be a CANE

Are you psychic ?

Nope he is just retarded

Unnecessary. Zero chance AG was getting rid of D without giving him a chance with better talent here. Zero.

Sounds like he liked the visit a good deal, but didn't adore it. Or he's playing it generally close to the vest. Would be interested in contextualizing this interview with others.
