It’s probably hard to comprehend but linebacker Ricky DeBerry from St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Virginia, has visited an outrageous total of at least twenty different BCS programs.

Miami isn’t among that group, but not for long.

DeBerry is bound for South Florida today so he can spend time in Coral Gables tomorrow.

“I’ve been interested in Miami for a long time but I never actually got a CHANCE to see it,” DeBerry said. “I always wanted to go down and look at the city, the campus, and the university. My dad is a Hurricane fan and I’m excited to do this for him. I think those are pretty good reasons to check out one of the best programs in the history of football.”

DeBerry’s (6-3, 255) father, Ricky Sr., will be in tow as has been customary with much of their travel.

“He goes on every visit that he possibly can and he plays a big role,” DeBerry said. “He’s always there to talk with people in case I didn’t get a chance to. He has my best interests at heart and makes sure everybody else does too. He allows me to make my own decisions but he helps me know if it’s the right one. He reminds me to keep in touch with all the coaches and reporters.”

DeBerry didn’t hesitate for a moment when asked to provide a list of questions. At the very least, he’ll walk out with more answers than when he walked in.

“Where do they plan to use me defensively and how do I fit in their scheme?” DeBerry said. “I’m open to hear what they suggest and we’ll go from there. Also why should I leave Virginia and go far from my parents for a place like Miami? Why should we trust their coaches to come all this way?”

More than fifty schools have offered DeBerry with Miami making the initial cut down to twenty. He has high expectations of what he’s about to see.

“I’m expecting beautiful weather, an amazing campus, nice people, and a great coaching staff,” DeBerry said. “All of that together should make it a comfortable place to live and spend four years in college. Everything I’ve heard about it so far has been impressive. They’re along with everybody else but I’ll definitely be able to put them in a certain place after I visit.”

DeBerry is being recruited by tight ends coach Larry Scott. He has already provided a preview of what the Miami experience will be.

“They’re going to show me what it’s like to be a Miami Hurricane and the lifestyle the players have,” DeBerry said. “They told me about the perks like having the Heat and the Dolphins in the same area. You get treated like royalty around campus and they’ll make sure I feel that when I’m there.”

Nice to hear from a young buck.

Daddy has him well trained

I dont know how serious he will be about us, but I know having two LB's kicked off the team COULD help, if he wants to hear about playing time as a freshman.

he keeps mentioning his dad & the big role he plays in the recruitment. he also states how his dad has been a UM fan. I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts on us after this visit!

Get him on campus and we've got a chance. This would be a great pull. Hope his visit goes well.

Got him on campus with his dad, a Cane fan. They will make him feel like royalty like every other school. From there it's his decision. We got our shot

Rick DeBerry-"Miami was everything!!! Showed nothing but love!!! It's all about the U"

His Dad is a Cane fan, and he enjoyed his visit... hopefully, we have a good season to be seriously considered an option ..
