Richt's talent at UGA compared to Miami...

I hear a common misconception that Richt had more talent at UGA than he will at Miami.

I trotted out a fact that Richt was 19-4 vs. ACC teams while at UGA, in which fans of ACC teams say well he had more talent at UGA than he will at Miami.

I also hear radio guys bring up the talent argument UGA vs. Miami also.

Facts from 2006-2015 NFL draft spanned 10 years.

UGA-55 players drafted/6 first rounders
Miami-48 players drafted/7 first rounders

Now if you want to include Richt's entire UGA coaching career to the same time span at Miami.

Miami-80 players drafted/23 first rounders
UGA-76 players drafted/12 first rounders

Now don't get me wrong over the past 10 years UGA has had more depth, slightly more talent. It's not some HUGE gap like some are putting on.

It's very similiar actually.

I think OP is trying to point that out to the people that think Richt is some big time underachiever. The guy is a perfect fit for miami. With all the great talent down here, and his eye for it and ability to coach it. Were in for a bright future.

Another thing about Golden and Shannon was that the talent they DID bring in often didn't A) get motivated enough to succeed and get drafted, or B) looked so horrible in the schemes being run that they didn't get drafted. There is talent on this team that can get drafted, but wouldn't under either Golden or Shannon. Richt will get more out of the talent he brings in, as well as bring in more talent. It's a win win situation for us.

I live in in an area where it's Clemson, UGA, and South Carolina talk most of the year.

Fans of these schools as well as radio guys around here keep saying that Richt will struggle to win like he did at UGA (basically 10 wins per season), and point to his record vs. the ACC 19-4 at UGA was because he had more talent at UGA than he will at Miami, and that winning success vs. ACC won't translate over.

I also see this narrative with some national guys I think too.

I think the numbers in my original post point to Richt is going to have just as much talent on hand at Miami, and possibly more.

This is why I get excited and I think when you hear Richt lately he is excited! For as good as Georgia was and is, they've never had the access to the type of talent that fall off trees in the south florida/florida region.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Defending league champion Clemson leads all schools with 10 selections to the 2016 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Football Team announced on Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated has also joined the fray, releasing its list of first-team and second-team preseason All-Americans.

Alabama led the way with five first-teamers, and the Crimson Tide had eight players represented on SI's two teams. Clemson was second to Alabama - just like in last season's College Football Playoff - with four overall selections.

We need to stockpile Elite talent the next few cycles. If you look at the last 5 years of recruiting there are a lot of guys that didn't stay at Miami.

I hope that Richt brings in the right guys with Savage mentalities. I hate watching Miami play soft-*** football with no emotion.

I like what I'm hearing from Fall Camp and also the new kids coming in sound like old-school canes even if they're from Cali/Georgia.

Get those elite S Fla guys and sprinkle in some out of state studs..... We'll be on the same level of FSU/Clemson in talent.

I think recruits from the state of Georgia, in general, are overrated. They're consistently highly rated, but don't consistently produce IMO. FL obviously has more talent, but the gap in talent between GA and FL is bigger than most people probably think.

Richt's best players were mostly out of state - Stafford, Gurley, Moreno, AJ Green

He did a great job of locking up Georgia players. You have to lock up your backyard, and he did that. Problem is, his backyard wasn't as good as billed.

My one knock on his recruiting at Georgia is he should have identified that, and been more aggressive in recruiting other talent rich SEC regions like Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida.

So if he locks up South Florida like he did Georgia, and adds 2-3 National recruits in each class, we should be contending for NC's again.

Even without the cream of the crop we keep recruiting like this Miami will be a regular in the ACCCG which is step one.

Never been there before.

Being more talented than the rest of the coastal. We will need to stay ahead of UNC,GT,VT in recruiting. Which we shall.

Meaning we likely will have automatic tickets punched into the ACCCG for the foreseeable future. Once you get there let coaching take over to battle Clemson/FSU/Louis ville for the next decade.

Those were projected on the team and they kicked everyone rear end. Mark needs to do bunch of pay back to UGA, the noles for crediting Bobby for the NC's Mark's offense won, the gators because they made him their *****(as if any Cane needs an extra reason), OSU because of Urban, and the whole SEC just because. Try again the state of ga has produced the most sec talent by far in the past 10 years even more so than Florida. Uga may have not always landed the best from ga but they got a lot of them.

Right now, for the 2016 season, I think it's Clemson and it's not even close. That Clemson team was really young last year and really good. They'd be my preseason #1 .
