Richt's offensive philosophy "offensive line doesn't have to be dominant"

Old article from his UGA days:

It just needs to be good enough to let the skill position players do their thing.

“I’ve coached offensive football a long time," Richt said last week. "I don’t want to make anybody mad at Florida State, but we didn’t have dominating offensive lines, but we had some great skill people that were able to make some great plays. If you have a bunch of linemen that know what to do, and can stay coordinated and get their hat on the right guy, and fight like mad, you can neutralize a defender for long enough for a great skill guy to get on by, or get the ball off, whatever it might be.

This is pretty telling about the guy's offensive philosophy. If you dig through all of the articles written about his time at UGA, you notice tons of articles about both offensive line and special teams being lacking. I am surprise why Miami hired a guy who was FIRED for under-performing.

A Sun Sentinel article today said Richt called plays based on where the ball was positioned on the field. And when asked if adjustments were ever made, he said no, we run plays in practice for those situations.

So basically no feel for the ebbs and flow of the game and no adjustments based on what the defense is doing.

Horrible. I nearly threw my phone against the wall after read that bs.

Is Mark Richt getting paid? Because his *** ain't worth the paper they cut his check.

The man is a constant contradiction to himself. He didn't need a dominant O line then but now it's wait until the freshmen this year get in there. Then we will have a beast line and his scheme will work.

This scheme will never work at a major college football program in this day and age. The game has passed Richt by and if he will be bored only being head coach then he can retire, go back to Georgia, and have his sweet tea on his front porch.

Richt is the biggest problem with this team.

This dude is such a tool he says that but his favorite pass route is all verts that takes the longest time to develop and runs no misdirection

Truthfully I think Richt has some good HC qualities...

The two that are absolutely stealing money on offense is Searles and Brown.... they have provided zero to this other than to have a title of oline coach and RB/co-OC

Having top 5 OL/DL is crucial to consistent success.

Can you do it without one? Sure, but not for long. Game planning without OL/DL domination is more gimmick scheme than legitimate scheme.

I got negged out the kazoo for stating that Richt had no feel for the game. No intuition.

Now, after this - ****, I hate being right all the time.

We really need Butch Davis.

If I was a billionaire I would walk in to the next BOT meeting drop a checkbook on their desk and tell them to fire everyone inside that football building (but Dugans & Simpson)

You would also need to request the admins and Bot resign. They are the reason we haven’t been relevant for Almost 20 years. Bad hire after bad hire since 1995.

Probably should knock off 3/4 of the trustees as well because they’re useless

UGA went to the CFP with Marks OL. Clearly he can recruit. My issue is can Searles develop them and can the scheme help cover up the teams weaknesses. I’d say no to those two things. A scheme can go a long way in covering up weaknesses but we don’t have a QB to help execute that. That too is a scheme issue as it isn’t that complex to use motion to determine man/zone before the snap. Instead of moving the RB for RPO, motion Jt with a sweep every play to make the LBers, DE, and DBs have to stop for a split second. Hand it to JT 3-5 times a game. Let Pope or DJ do that too if you are concerned for Jts health.
