Richt Y1 Strategy...Most Important Games

Awesome strategy. Win the games you should win and then maybe pull an upset. I hope Richt follows this foolproof strategy.

OP lost me at BLUF.

I think we should lose the first three games just so the ACC lets their guard down.

All nets are off.

What an idiot.

Since we get to decide which games we'll win, why not win them all?

Now that's a very sound strategy. I like this strategy even better than OP's.

Agree 100%. How many times have the Canes done that since '87, '91, and '01?

Brother Kryp...

Im with you 100%...win every game...just A LOT of chatter about, "if Canes dont go 10-x, or if they dont beat FSU, etc.. the season is a bust..."

I just happen to have the outlook that what sets the program up the best long term is a convincing ACCCD championship amd ACCCG appearance in Y1.

Now in Y2+, I'm thinking the talk is legitimately going to center around ACCCD (given), ACCCG (given), AND crush FSU, etc...

I would say eliminating losses to the team's we have no business losing to would be job 1, but sooner or later you have to start beating the team's you aren't expected to beat. I'd like to see enough winning that HS kids are proud to be committed to us and ones who aren't committed want to get on board. So, however many wins or whichever wins that is, that's what we need.

I'd take a second place finish in the coastal, if it meant beating both FSU and ND.

You would really rather have that?

Awesome for you.

I just have different outlook and expectation.

Those are the games the recruits will be watching. Beating FSU is worth 1 or 2 blue chippers alone. If you're not playoff bound, you have to win the prime time games to get kids excited again. Winning the ****tiest division in the power five is nothing to be proud of, Russ.

This seems to be an outlook focused more on satisfying ESPN and less about impressing recruits and building momentum. The best thing we can do this season is beat FSU. If Richt beats FSU his first season then you could completely sell the fact that the tide has turned. Nobody outside of our fans care about us beating ND or winning the coastal. Beat FSU and have a good season and we are back on the map.

We just have differing viewpoints.

Guess this season might show what one is better.

Too bad our Canes havent been able to win the ****test division in the D1P5...

Here's to seeing that change this season and every season after.

Go Canes.

KCF...

Do you really think beating FSU is the key to the season?

That would be progress without a doubt, but I just think winning the ACCCD outright is a better sign of progress...

Would be great to see them crush FSU...but if given a single either/or choice, I'll take the ACCCD for Y1.

I'm just not certain the Canes will get as much credit with just beating FSU.

Season will tell...

The recruits see FSU as above us. There's only one way to turn that tide. The media will be more impressed with a coastal win but the real key is October 8th.

You're just wrong on this one, pal. One of the main reasons we've been losing the best players in SF is the losing streak to FSU. There will be kids in the stadium that night that will commit to the winning team. The only way to build for what you call Y2+, is getting the elite local kids that are on the fence, not eeking out Pitt, VT and UNC for a useless division title.

**** getting to the ACCCG. It is meaningless, unless your playoff bound. Beat FSU and we can get some horses and build some depth.

The recruiting losses are multi-factorial to be sure. Hasn't seemed to bother Richt and staff, considering where they started and what they had to work with, the last cycle. While not snagging all the targets, I think they did secure a few over some other big name competitors like Bama, OSU, FSU, etc.

Without a doubt though, beating FSU consistently makes it easier.

Wrt to ACCCG being meaningless, I differ from you greatly. Miami wins the ACCCG this year, and they are absolutely in the CFP conversation. Again, you and I disagree, I just think, for Y1, that carries more weight, long term, than a W over FSU.

I wonder how Ole Miss recruiting is going against Bama with their "we beat Bama last x2 and Bama has the last x2 NCs"...

Just different viewpoints...appreciate your counters...makes for strong debate...

A 3-4 loss Miami team does not make the playoff.

The committee will see a 3 loss Miami as equal to 1 loss Alabama for sure.

A loss to .500 NC State team won't hurt that much in the eyes of the committee.

We'll have the app st. Win to balance it out.

I think you are derailing the orginal premise I offered: that the ACCCD and ACCCG appearance are the most important overall goal (because an ACCCD title isnt severable from an ACCCG appearance at this time) for Richt Y1.

Its very likely that IF/WHEN our Canes run the ACCCD table, the Ws against the NC States of the world are also a component of that package. But to be clear, beating NC State (or FSU) doesnt affect Miami's ACCCD title aspirations so long as they [Miami] run the table inside the division.

And you are correct, its hard to see the CFP selecting any 3-4 loss ACC Champion over a 1 loss Bama, and I never suggested that.

Again, you feel that beating FSU is the primary goal (the #1 ) of Richt Y1 when all other goals are weighed and measured. Good for you and I appreciate your take.

I have a different one. We are both right from our perspectives.

Right, everyone has weighed in on that. Now we're having fun imagining Miami getting some respect in the college football world.

Brother Kryp...

If one/both of us is right, the days of imagining the Canes getting respect are over.

Richt and staff are putting the squad in the best position, in well over a very dark decade, to earning and taking respect from all comers.

Will be a great thing to see one day soon at the coin toss when the Canes representatives start off with, "don't be scared baby...don't be scared..."

Go Canes.

I agree that were headed back towards greatness, but respect? I don't think we ever got what we deserved, nor will we. I'll settle for fear.
