Richt to be honored at game Thursday

Coach Richt is a class act.
He is as old school as they come, but with all his destinations..........look at his face when he talks about the U......smiles with a twinkle in his eye, and ready with another story of his days at the U.
He will tell you that when he played it was Before the" U"........but Miami was on the way to becoming the U....after suffering the indignities of being called
Suntan U for years....
Great person, great guy, and a Cane through and through.
Well deserved........... and yes......... I agree if he took over from Clappy we may have had a run that was incredible.....

Love this for Coach Richt. Such a shame we got him so late in his career and dwindling health. Still won games for us.

Canes should have pivoted to Richt after Butch instead of Coker. He obviously would have won in 2001 and likely 2002 as well and worst case scenario the next 15 years would have been Georgia type results - winning 75% of his games, conference titles, and right on the cusp of championships.

Obvious roadblocks were that Georgia had just hired him in December 2000 and Butch didn't leave until almost the end of January 2001. Still think he would have jumped if we called. Miami was the highest paid coaching gig in America including Shannon's first couple years. Richt is loyal and didn't entertain our calls in 2010 but I bet he would have in 2001.
It was unfortunate but to me that did a few things, 1. it rallied some boosters, 2. it showed the nation we were paying for a HC, 3. he got us the IPF built, and 4. he helped restore broken relationships in SFL because he is just such a good dude. So while his overall tenure was nothing to write home about from a W/L standpoint and he had some obvious faults/poor decisions, he was a net positive for the program and there is no debate in that.

Feel like it’s almost disrespectful to do it against such a weak opponent. He deserves to be honored in a packed house. Love Richt. Great dude.

If we can move the Miami Nights jerseys later in the year, we can move Coach Richt's honor to later in the year.

Here's a brilliant idea...Homecoming against UVa. After all, Coach Richt IS a UM alum.

I thought he was the sharpest one on set

It was when the Miami (OH) game got delayed and they had to come up with stuff to talk about for a while without much planning. Maybe that was why it looked so messy

Well deserved. He was the only coach in the last 16 years to have 2 good seasons (9-4 and 10-3). Richt seemed to be the only that knew what he was doing while the rest were terrible flops

10-3 was such a painful ending. Still shudder thinking about that Pitt/Clemson/Wisconsin stretch.

They just changed it to fans wear green, so I don’t even know if they’re doing Miami nights on Thursday

He was funny the other night. EJ wanted to talk about the Seminoles and Richt took over the table talking about his favorite meal combo from Chick-Fil-A; #2 Spicy Chicken Sandwich combo. Said of the deluxe; "no cheese because I care about my body".

There was a post on another thread that said "no".

At any rate, I haven't seen any UM communications similar to "hey, guysm, let's do an orange-out"...

I’m pretty sure I saw a post from a Caneswear that said it was going to green for fans. I guess they would know. Maybe the U-equipment folks tweeted it out, but I don’t really follow them.

Good for him he seems like a really good person.

Met him and his wife in College Station last year just sitting outside the stadium. Very cool dude and he was impressed that I knew he’s from Omaha too. He was there cheering on his nephews and the U. Ran into him and Coach O within a ten minute span. Crazy.

My uncle has Parkinson’s and it can advance FAST when you are older. Worries me that his health is deteriorating fast. One of the few good dudes in College Football and the world in general, he doesn’t deserve this at all.

Don’t forget, he was willing to forgo his buyout for the betterment of the program. After giving $1Million of his own money for the IPF. Walked into a program full of guys he didn’t coach and took it personal their pro day took place in the rain. The list just goes on. Phenomenal person.

I really don’t understand why Miami does this. The ceremony in itself was not going to sell any tickets and the man deserves a brighter, spotlight, game to be recognized for what he did. This is like a blake level move.
